There’s something about a Lake Forest family photography session at Elawa Farm that feels like stepping right into a storybook. Specifically, the morning light and wildflowers make it a photographer’s dream. This was my very first Elawa Farm | Lake Forest family photography session. Consequently, I was blown away by how peaceful the grounds were. Between the sprawling gardens and the flutter of monarch butterflies, it felt like we stumbled into a little pocket of magic. Because this family was new to my lens, I could tell right away that it was going to be a special morning. They showed up with two adorable little ones—a curious toddler and a smiley baby. Furthermore, their gentle energy made this Elawa Farm | Lake Forest family photography session flow naturally.
Initially, big sister wasn’t totally sure about me or my camera. Honestly, who can blame her? However, that’s where patience and play come in. After a few games and a little silliness, she was twirling in her prettiest dress. She seemed completely lost in the wonder of the gardens. I’ll be back here soon for a wedding. Meanwhile, baby brother was all grins and giggles, perfectly content in his parents’ arms, soaking up all the attention. Watching the four of them together laughing, snuggling, and just being was such a reminder that every family photography session unfolds differently. Some are full of nonstop energy, some start slow and quiet, but they all lead to genuine moments that tell your family’s story.

Elawa Farm has officially made its way onto my list of favorite Lake Forest photography locations. The colors, the light, the butterflies it all just felt so alive. I left that morning feeling grateful for new families, new places, and mornings that make me fall in love with photography all over again.
