    One Year Old with a Chicago First Birthday Photographer

    Jameson showed up in the fluffiest pink suit with a face full of opinions and zero interest in smiling on command which made for the most perfect, honest photos. Her parents were wrapped around her little finger the entire session, stealing kisses while she surveyed the city skyline like she owned it.

    The Riverwalk in late winter has this moody, cinematic quality. Bare trees, steel bridges, that dark Chicago River and it works so beautifully against warm family moments. We mixed color and black and white throughout the gallery, and both feel totally at home in this location. I love capturing little ones Chicago First birthday Photos anywhere in the city.     What to Expect from a First Birthday Session

    First birthday sessions aren’t about posed portraits. They’re about documenting who your baby is right now. The expressions. The curiosity. The way they look at their parents. Jameson gave us all of that and more.

    We moved through the Riverwalk naturally. Her parents just got to be with her. I followed along and captured everything in between.

    If you are looking for the perfect indoor location, Chicago Cultural Center photos offer unmatched elegance. This is especially true when the Midwest weather is unpredictable. Furthermore, the historic landmark remains a top choice for families who want a classic architectural backdrop.This specific day we got swamped with rain, thankfully my clients suggested the cultural center, it was my first time to capture a family inside this space.

    Why Choose this location for Your Session?

    I love capturing Chicago Cultural Center photos because of the incredible variety within a single building. For example, you can find the world-famous Tiffany glass dome just steps away from intricate mother-of-pearl mosaics. Additionally, the sweeping marble staircases provide a grand feel for any portrait. It was a fun contrast to have fun in such a serious place. Thankfully there is plenty of open space to run and explore and unlike a museum there isn’t much of rules upstairs in the open space. The kids got to be kids, which is so important to me.

    During this recent session, we explored the Preston Bradley Hall and the grand arched hallways. These photos perfectly highlight the bond of this family of four, framed by some of the most stunning interior design in Illinois.

    Taking some Hyde Park family photos is on the top of my list every year. If you are looking for the perfect backdrop for Hyde Park family photography, the University of Chicago campus is hard to beat. I have loved watching this wonderful family grow since our very first session together. Specifically, we met years ago for their eldest daughter’s newborn photos. Since then, I have captured their journey through every new milestone in the city.

    First, the campus offers a variety of textures that make Hyde Park family photography look high-end and timeless. The gothic architecture and ivy-covered walls provide a sophisticated feel. In addition, the stone archways provide the perfect “frame” for natural family interactions, especially with energetic toddlers.

    While the wind was a bit chilly during this session, the family didn’t let it stop them. Instead, they focused on playing and laughing together near the quads. As a result, we captured genuine smiles and beautiful, candid moments that truly reflect their bond.

    Embracing the Golden Hour for Your Portraits

    Furthermore, the light at the UChicago quads is spectacular during the “golden hour.” The sun hits the limestone buildings and creates a warm, soft glow. Because of this, the skin tones look radiant and the overall mood of your Hyde Park family photos feels magical.

    Although toddlers can sometimes be unpredictable, these two were absolute stars. In fact, letting them run around the open courtyards helped them feel comfortable. Consequently, the photos reflect their true personalities and adventurous spirits without feeling forced or posed.

    A Family I’ve Loved Photographing Through the Years

    I have been photographing this sweet family since their oldest daughter was still in her mom’s belly. Our first session together was a maternity shoot near Thatcher Woods in River Forest. Since then, we have met many times, and I have watched their family grow. Because of this long history, walking into their home for this shoot felt familiar and joyful.

    The Beauty of Their Oak Park Home

    Their home is a classic Oak Park space—full of charm, natural light, and small details that tell their story. It provided the perfect backdrop for an easy and connected lifestyle session. The oldest sister, who is full of personality, brought so much fun to the morning. She laughed, played, and helped welcome her new baby sister.     This Humboldt Park family photography session was such a fun adventure! It just so happened to fall on the same weekend as the Chicago Marathon—oops! I almost forgot, but my amazing clients were total troopers and happily agreed to move our session a bit inland, away from the downtown chaos. Honestly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we discovered the absolute gem that is Humboldt Park.

    I had driven past Humboldt Park a few times but never stopped to explore… and wow, what a magical spot! The wide green spaces, the charming paths, and the glowing fall leaves made it feel like we’d stepped into a storybook. Every corner offered something new to capture, and I couldn’t stop smiling as we wandered through the park together. It was one of those sessions where the location feels like it was made just for families like this.

    Because this family was new to my lens, I could tell right away that it was going to be a special morning. They showed up with two adorable little ones—a curious toddler and a smiley baby. Furthermore, their gentle energy made this Elawa Farm | Lake Forest family photography session flow naturally.

    Initially, big sister wasn’t totally sure about me or my camera. Honestly, who can blame her? However, that’s where patience and play come in. Because the sanctuary sits right on Lake Michigan, the light reflects off the water and creates a soft, glowing haze that makes the autumn colors pop.     This was my third time working with this incredible family, and it was such an honor to document this new chapter. Their son, Luca, is so dang sweet and was a complete joy to work with. He was super excited about becoming a big brother!     Celebrating Twins in Chicago

    Melissa and David are adding two new members to their family. Since they are expecting twins, this session felt twice as joyful. We had an amazing time exploring the grounds together. First, the stunning architecture gave us a classic look. Then, we moved toward the open views to catch the blue skies.
