If you’re looking to do some Chicago first birthday photos r who skips the studio setup and heads straight to the city, this one’s for you. Jameson’s family chose the Chicago Riverwalk for her first birthday session, and honestly  it was the perfect backdrop for a baby with that much personality. One Year Old on the Chicago Riverwalk

One Year Old with a Chicago First Birthday Photographer

Jameson showed up in the fluffiest pink suit with a face full of opinions and zero interest in smiling on command which made for the most perfect, honest photos. Her parents were wrapped around her little finger the entire session, stealing kisses while she surveyed the city skyline like she owned it.

The Riverwalk in late winter has this moody, cinematic quality. Bare trees, steel bridges, that dark Chicago River and it works so beautifully against warm family moments. We mixed color and black and white throughout the gallery, and both feel totally at home in this location. I love capturing little ones Chicago First birthday Photos anywhere in the city. If you need some ideas I’m always here to help.

What to Expect from a First Birthday Session

First birthday sessions aren’t about posed portraits. They’re about documenting who your baby is right now. The expressions. The curiosity. The way they look at their parents. Jameson gave us all of that and more.

We moved through the Riverwalk naturally. Her parents just got to be with her. I followed along and captured everything in between.

Is your little one turning one? Skip the backdrop and the balloon. I want to document something that actually feels like them. Downtown Chicago has so much to work with the skyline, the river, the bridges, the city energy. It all becomes part of your family’s story.

Ready to book your own Chicago first birthday photographer session? I’d love to hear about your baby. This family traveled in from Michigan so I am incredibly honored to have been their Family photographer. This sweet little baby was a sweetheart, also how amazing that the Chicago City Riverwalk was empty. Ha. It was cold.

Chicago Cultural Center Photos | Timeless Family Portraits

If you are looking for the perfect indoor location, Chicago Cultural Center photos offer unmatched elegance. This is especially true when the Midwest weather is unpredictable. Furthermore, the historic landmark remains a top choice for families who want a classic architectural backdrop. This specific day we got swamped with rain, thankfully my clients suggested the cultural center, it was my first time to capture a family inside this space.

Why Choose this location for Your Session?

I love capturing Chicago Cultural Center photos because of the incredible variety within a single building. For example, you can find the world-famous Tiffany glass dome just steps away from intricate mother-of-pearl mosaics. Additionally, the sweeping marble staircases provide a grand feel for any portrait. It was a fun contrast to have fun in such a serious place. Thankfully there is plenty of open space to run and explore and unlike a museum there isn’t much of rules upstairs in the open space. The kids got to be kids, which is so important to me.

During this recent session, we explored the Preston Bradley Hall and the grand arched hallways. These photos perfectly highlight the bond of this family of four, framed by some of the most stunning interior design in Illinois.

Tips for Planning Your Indoor Chicago Photo Session

Planning your Chicago Cultural Center photos requires a little bit of strategy. Therefore, keep these three things in mind:

    1. Timing is Key: Aim for weekday mornings. This helps you avoid the heavy tourist crowds.
    2. Wardrobe: Neutral colors or soft pastels pop beautifully against the white marble.
    3. Permits: Always check the current photography policies on the Chicago Cultural Center’s official website. As a result, your session will go smoothly without any interruptions.

Ultimately, my goal as a Chicago family photographer is to create images that feel timeless. I hope these photos inspire your next family portrait session!

  • Hyde Park Family Photos at the University of Chicago

Hyde Park Family Photos at the University of Chicago

Hyde Park Family Photography at the University of Chicago

Taking some Hyde Park family photos is on the top of my list every year. If you are looking for the perfect backdrop for Hyde Park family photography, the University of Chicago campus is hard to beat. I have loved watching this wonderful family grow since our very first session together. Specifically, we met years ago for their eldest daughter’s newborn photos. Since then, I have captured their journey through every new milestone in the city.

Why the University of Chicago is Ideal for Hyde Park Family Photography

First, the campus offers a variety of textures that make Hyde Park family photography look high-end and timeless. The gothic architecture and ivy-covered walls provide a sophisticated feel. In addition, the stone archways provide the perfect “frame” for natural family interactions, especially with energetic toddlers.

While the wind was a bit chilly during this session, the family didn’t let it stop them. Instead, they focused on playing and laughing together near the quads. As a result, we captured genuine smiles and beautiful, candid moments that truly reflect their bond.

Embracing the Golden Hour for Your Portraits

Furthermore, the light at the UChicago quads is spectacular during the “golden hour.” The sun hits the limestone buildings and creates a warm, soft glow. Because of this, the skin tones look radiant and the overall mood of your Hyde Park family photos feels magical.

Although toddlers can sometimes be unpredictable, these two were absolute stars. In fact, letting them run around the open courtyards helped them feel comfortable. Consequently, the photos reflect their true personalities and adventurous spirits without feeling forced or posed.

Planning Your Family Session in Hyde Park

If you are looking for a location that blends nature with historic charm, this area is the answer. Moreover, it is a versatile spot that works well in every season. Whether you want the green ivy of summer or the dramatic architecture of winter, your Hyde Park family photography session will never disappoint.

Finally, I want to thank this family for trusting me with their memories once again. It is truly an honor to be your family photographer and to document your story as it unfolds year after year.

A Cozy Session With an At Home Oak Park Photographer

As an At Home Oak Park Photographer, I love capturing families in the comfort of their own homes. At-home sessions allow everyone to relax, which helps the photos feel warm, honest, and personal. They also create a space where real connection naturally comes forward.

A Family I’ve Loved Photographing Through the Years

I have been photographing this sweet family since their oldest daughter was still in her mom’s belly. Our first session together was a maternity shoot near Thatcher Woods in River Forest. Since then, we have met many times, and I have watched their family grow. Because of this long history, walking into their home for this shoot felt familiar and joyful.

The Beauty of Their Oak Park Home

Their home is a classic Oak Park space—full of charm, natural light, and small details that tell their story. It provided the perfect backdrop for an easy and connected lifestyle session. The oldest sister, who is full of personality, brought so much fun to the morning. She laughed, played, and helped welcome her new baby sister. Meanwhile, her parents moved through the session with calm and tenderness, which made everything flow beautifully.

A happy family scene with a man holding a young girl while a woman smiles at them, set in a softly lit room.

Why Connection Matters in At-Home Photography

As a photographer who values real connection, I love moments that feel unposed and true. During this session, those moments showed up again and again. There were soft newborn snuggles, cheerful bursts of toddler energy, and quiet pauses where everyone simply breathed in this new chapter. All of these small interactions came together to create a gallery filled with heart.

Being their At Home Oak Park Photographer year after year has been such an honor. Each session adds another piece to their story, and I am grateful to help them hold onto these memories.

  • Humboldt Park Family Photography | Chicago Fall Session

Humboldt Park Family Photography | Chicago Fall Session

Humboldt Park Family Photography Session During the Chicago Marathon

This Humboldt Park family photography session was such a fun adventure! It just so happened to fall on the same weekend as the Chicago Marathon—oops! I almost forgot, but my amazing clients were total troopers and happily agreed to move our session a bit inland, away from the downtown chaos. Honestly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we discovered the absolute gem that is Humboldt Park.

Exploring Humboldt Park for Chicago Family Photography

I had driven past Humboldt Park a few times but never stopped to explore… and wow, what a magical spot! The wide green spaces, the charming paths, and the glowing fall leaves made it feel like we’d stepped into a storybook. Every corner offered something new to capture, and I couldn’t stop smiling as we wandered through the park together. It was one of those sessions where the location feels like it was made just for families like this.

    Watching This Family Grow

I’ve had the joy of photographing this family since the birth of their little one, which makes every session extra special. It’s honestly such a gift to watch these babies grow up right before your eyes! Their kids are playful, joyful, and completely effortless in front of the camera every laugh, hug, and silly face felt like pure magic to capture. Humboldt Park gave us the perfect backdrop for those genuine, everyday moments that tell their story.

    A Perfect October Morning

And let’s talk about the weather—it was dreamy! Just a little warm for October, with soft sunlight filtering through the trees, casting that golden, glow-everything light photographers secretly love. The kids ran, laughed, and explored while I clicked away, capturing those candid, heartwarming moments that families treasure forever. Mornings like this remind me why I adore lifestyle and documentary-style family photography the authentic smiles, the cozy little details, and the laughter that fills the air.

A Lake Forest Photography Session Full of Magic at Elawa Farm

There’s something about a Lake Forest family photography session at Elawa Farm that feels like stepping right into a storybook. Specifically, the morning light and wildflowers make it a photographer’s dream. This was my very first Elawa Farm | Lake Forest family photography session. Consequently, I was blown away by how peaceful the grounds were. Between the sprawling gardens and the flutter of monarch butterflies, it felt like we stumbled into a little pocket of magic. I am shooting a wedding here soon so I am so excited to be back in this very special location soon!

A Warm Elawa Farm | Lake Forest Family Photography Session

Because this family was new to my lens, I could tell right away that it was going to be a special morning. They showed up with two adorable little ones—a curious toddler and a smiley baby. Furthermore, their gentle energy made this Elawa Farm | Lake Forest family photography session flow naturally.

Initially, big sister wasn’t totally sure about me or my camera. Honestly, who can blame her? However, that’s where patience and play come in. After a few games and a little silliness, she was twirling in her prettiest dress. She seemed completely lost in the wonder of the gardens. I’ll be back here soon for a wedding. Therefore, I can’t wait to capture more memories in this stunning Lake Forest location.

Capturing Connection and Joy in a Lake Forest Photography Session

Meanwhile, baby brother was all grins and giggles, perfectly content in his parents’ arms, soaking up all the attention. Watching the four of them together laughing, snuggling, and just being was such a reminder that every family photography session unfolds differently. Some are full of nonstop energy, some start slow and quiet, but they all lead to genuine moments that tell your family’s story.

Falling in Love with Lake Forest Photography All Over Again

Elawa Farm has officially made its way onto my list of favorite Lake Forest photography locations. The colors, the light, the butterflies it all just felt so alive. A Legacy of Love: Evanston Family Photos at the Lighthouse

Evanston family photos at the lighthouse have a special kind of magic. This is true when multiple generations come together. As a Chicago photographer, I have documented this family several times. Each session feels like reuniting with old friends. However, this time was extra special. The grandparents joined in to celebrate their legacy. Consequently, their connection echoed through every frame.

    Preserving the Connection Between Generations

The kids were as sweet and playful as ever. They spent the evening chasing light and sharing giggles. Because of sessions like this, I want to focus on multi-generational photography. These moments remind me that storytelling is about more than one person. Instead, it is about the bond between generations. Watching the grandparents hold their grandkids’ hands was unforgettable. Specifically, it was the highlight of these Evanston family photos.

Why Choose the Lighthouse for Evanston Family Photos?

As a Chicago Family Photographer who loves traveling up north the lighthouse beach is one of my favorite places. It offers a diverse backdrop for your gallery. For example, you can find sandy paths and tall grass. Because of this variety, families can interact naturally. I can then photograph their genuine, joyful moments. Moreover, the iconic lighthouse adds a timeless feeling to the images.

Capturing Your Story Exactly as It Is Every time I shoot here, I am reminded why I love my job. I want to capture families exactly as they are. Ultimately, these sessions are more than just digital files. They are about creating lasting memories. Therefore, we focus on simple moments. We look for things like holding hands or sharing a quiet look. As a result, these become the images that families cherish forever.

In conclusion, your family’s story is a masterpiece. Consequently, I would love to help you document it. Whether you are bringing the whole family or just your little ones, the lighthouse is the perfect stage. See the full Evanston family photographer portfolio and experience guide.

  • Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos | Fall Family Session in Chicago

Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos | Fall Family Session in Chicago

There is a quiet, breathtaking magic found in Montrose Bird Sanctuary photos. While many Chicago families flock to the typical city parks, this hidden gem offers a unique blend of wild prairie grass and an iconic skyline view—the perfect backdrop for families who want to feel “away from it all” without leaving the city. During this October session, the golden hour light hit the autumn foliage perfectly, allowing this sweet family to simply play, explore, and be themselves.

Why I Love Capturing Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos

The beauty of a Montrose Bird Sanctuary photo session lies in the variety. One moment you are surrounded by towering reeds and native wildflowers, and the next, you turn around to see the Sears Tower peeking through the trees. Furthermore, the space is vast, which is a huge advantage for families with toddlers. Instead of being confined to a small paved area, children have the freedom to run along the woodchip paths and explore the natural “nooks” of the sanctuary.

A happy family scene featuring a dad and mom holding their smiling daughter in a sunlit outdoor setting with colorful foliage in the background.

The Best Time for Your Fall Family Portraits

Timing is everything when it comes to photography in Chicago. Consequently, I always recommend scheduling your session during the “Golden Hour”—the hour just before sunset. Because the sanctuary sits right on Lake Michigan, the light reflects off the water and creates a soft, glowing haze that makes the autumn colors pop. Additionally, the fall season brings out deep oranges and dried tans in the prairie grass, providing a textures-rich environment that looks incredible in print.

Choosing Your Outfits for a Prairie Session

When planning your Montrose Bird Sanctuary photos, I suggest leaning into a “coordinated but not matched” look. Since the background is full of natural textures like grass and wood, earthy tones work best. For example, deep rust, mustard yellow, and forest green complement the fall scenery beautifully. Most importantly, choose comfortable footwear. Because we will be walking through some uneven terrain to get those perfect skyline shots, stylish boots are usually the best choice for moms and kids alike.

Late Autumn Woods Maternity Announcement in Hanover Park, IL

As a Hanover Park maternity photographer, there is something truly magical about the transition from autumn to winter. The colors become deeper, the air gets crisp, and the focus shifts entirely to the warmth and connection of the family. This recent session in the late autumn woods was a beautiful example of why I love what I do.

Capturing a Special Milestone in Hanover Park

This was my third time working with this incredible family, and it was such an honor to document this new chapter. Their son, Luca, is so dang sweet and was a complete joy to work with. He was super excited about becoming a big brother! Even though late fall sessions can be a bit more challenging due to the drop in temperature, this family’s love and energy made the cold air completely unnoticeable.

Why Choose a Hanover Park Maternity Photographer for Your Session?

When planning a maternity announcement, the location plays a huge role in the “story” of your photos. This specific spot is one of my favorites in the area. The combination of open air, rustic woods, and the nearby water suits a maternity session perfectly. It provides a timeless, organic backdrop that keeps the focus on the mama-to-be and her growing “bump.”

If you are looking for a Hanover Park maternity photographer to capture your journey, here are a few tips for late autumn sessions:

    • Layer Up: Use stylish sweaters or blankets to stay warm between shots.
    • Timing is Key: We aim for “Golden Hour” to get that soft, glowing light through the bare trees.
    • Embrace the Colors: Deep greens, creams, and earthy browns look stunning against the late fall landscape.

I am so happy for this family and can’t wait to meet their newest addition soon!

Melissa and David’s South Shore Maternity Session

Planning a South Shore maternity session is a wonderful way to celebrate your growing family against a historic Chicago backdrop. Whether you are looking for lakefront views or grand architecture, the South Shore neighborhood offers everything a photographer could dream of. I have loved watching this family grow since our very first session together years ago. Specifically, we met for their eldest daughter’s newborn photos. Since then, I have captured their journey through every new milestone in the city.

    Celebrating Twins in Chicago

Melissa and David are adding two new members to their family. Since they are expecting twins, this session felt twice as joyful. We had an amazing time exploring the grounds together. First, the stunning architecture gave us a classic look. Then, we moved toward the open views to catch the blue skies.

Although becoming a parent is a big change, I know these two are ready. Soon, their capacity for love will grow even more. Consequently, these photos will serve as a beautiful reminder of the quiet moments before the twins arrive.

Why Choose a South Shore Maternity Session?

If you want a mix of city vibes and nature, this area is perfect. Furthermore, the light near the lake creates a soft glow that is ideal for portraits. Whether you want a sunset look or bright morning light, the South Shore never fails to impress.

Finally, I want to thank this couple for trusting me. As a result of our session, they have a timeless gallery to cherish forever.

South Shore Maternity Session: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best time of day for a South Shore maternity session? The “Golden Hour,” which occurs about an hour before sunset, is the best time. The sun reflects off Lake Michigan and the limestone buildings, creating a warm, flattering glow for expectant mothers.

Is there a permit required for photos at the South Shore Cultural Center? Yes, like most Chicago Park District locations, a permit is often required for professional photography. Furthermore, it is always best to check their official calendar to ensure no private events are blocking the grand staircase or gardens.

What should I wear for my maternity portraits?

As a Chicago Maternity Photographer, let’s skip the Black dress. I recommend long, flowing dresses that emphasize the bump. Neutral colors like cream, sage, or light blue look stunning against the tan stone of the South Shore architecture.
