    Pleasant Home Family Session

Meeting new clients is always so exciting, especially when the location has as much character as this one. For this Pleasant Home family session, we were all so grateful that the Chicago weather gave us a huge break. As any local photographer knows, you just never know what you’ll find in late autumn. Consequently, the soft light against the historic Prairie School architecture was a dream to document.

Documentary Storytelling in the Pleasant District

If you’re an Oka Park + Chicago family photographer in the area, you know how repetitive certain parks can feel. However, choosing a spot like Pleasant Home changes the entire energy of a gallery. Because my client lives in the area, it was an easy decision to go with something simple yet architecturally striking. In fact, I have a deep personal love for this specific neighborhood. Since I live nearby in Forest Park now, walking through the Pleasant District is a part of my daily routine. I love the way the light hits the historic facades and the quiet, intentional energy of the streets. By leaning into the local environment, the images feel both grounded and timeless.

Iconic Architecture for a Pleasant Home Family Session

The strong lines and deep history of Oak Park act as a perfect backdrop for honest, unscripted storytelling. During this Pleasant Home family session, I focused on the “in-between” moments—the way they looked at each other and the quiet joy of a growing family. Furthermore, these honest reflections of their life are exactly what I strive to capture in every visual legacy. As a result, they walk away with a gallery that feels like a piece of their family’s history, rather than a staged event.

Why I Love Being an Oak Park Family Photographer

In 2026 and beyond, I want to continue adding these local, historic photoshoots to my portfolio. There’s something about the way your environment changes and the images you can capture right in your own community. If you are looking to book your own Pleasant Home family session, I would love to connect. Whether we stay near the historic home or wander the surrounding Pleasant District, your family’s journey is worth preserving. Please feel free to explore my lifestyle family portfolio to see more of my work across the West Suburbs.

Grandparent Photography Oak Brook: An Extended Family Legacy

Sometimes the most lovely sessions happen in the bitter cold. I recently had the honor of photographing this beautiful extended family at the historic Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, Illinois. While I wish it had been five degrees warmer, their love comes through so clearly in these images against the stunning architecture. As an expert in grandparent photography in Oak Brook, I know that these moments are about more than just a perfect day. They are about documenting a visual legacy for generations to come.

    Capturing Multi-Generational Connection

Extended family sessions are truly a gift “for Grandma.” Specifically, they are a chance to see the entire family tree in one frame. When I approach photography in Oak Brook, I look for the quiet, unscripted moments. From the youngest grandchildren to the matriarch of the family, every connection is vital. Consequently, even in the freezing temperatures, we focused on the warmth of their hugs and the laughter that filled the air.

Why I Prioritize Honesty Over Poses

Oak Brook offers such a stunning backdrop for outdoor portraits, no matter the season. Furthermore, choosing a Chicago Family photographer who prioritizes “honesty over poses” ensures that your family’s unique personality shines through. Instead of focusing on everyone looking perfectly at the camera, we allow the children to play and the adults to interact naturally. As a result, the gallery feels authentic and full of life. This is the heart of my approach to photography in Oak Brook.

Itasca Family Storytelling Session: The McCallum Family

There is something so special about returning to a family months later to see how they have grown. I recently had the joy of visiting the McCallum family again. Actually, this session was a beautiful example of an Itasca family storytelling session. Instead of focusing on perfect smiles, we focused on their real, daily life. As a result, the final gallery is a true reflection of their unique bond.

Two children playing outdoors at sunset, one pulling a black blanket while the other holds it.

    Finding Magic in the Ordinary

We spent the afternoon capturing the little things that make a family whole. Specifically, we looked for the quiet glances and the spontaneous laughter. Because I am a specialist in documentary work, I know that these moments are the ones that matter most. We didn’t worry about stiff poses or matching outfits. Instead, we let the natural energy of the family lead the way. Consequently, the images from this Itasca family storytelling session feel timeless and authentic.

A black and white image of a couple sitting on grass, lovingly looking at each other with a baby in the man's lap. The woman kisses the man while the baby smiles at the camera.

Why I Prioritize “Honesty Over Poses”

Many families feel pressure to perform for the camera. Furthermore, I believe the most beautiful images come when you let go of that pressure. This documentary approach allows you to just be yourselves. Whether we are in a local park or a private space, the goal is always honesty. In addition, this style ensures that your photos feel like a memory, not just a picture. As a Chicago Family Photographer ultimately, these are the heirlooms you will treasure most.

Capturing Your Legacy in the West Suburbs

Every family has a rhythm that is all their own. My job is to step into that rhythm and document it without interference. Specifically, I want to capture the way you hold your child’s hand or the way your family laughs together at an inside joke. As a result, you get a gallery that isn’t just a collection of faces, but a collection of feelings. This is the heart of every Itasca family storytelling session I lead.

  • Family photography and video Chicago | Starved Rock

Family photography and video Chicago | Starved Rock

Family photography and video Chicago it’s something I’ve been wanting to explore for a long time, and this little film of my own kids at Starved Rock is where I finally took that first step.

No crew, no plan, no script. Just me, my kids, and a camera at one of our favorite places in Illinois.

Experimenting with Family Photography and Video in Chicago

I’ll be honest video has always intimidated me. As a photographer I’m comfortable in the stillness of a single frame, but video is a whole different language. This little film is imperfect and short, but making it taught me so much about the power of moving images alongside photography.

Watching it back, I was struck by what video captures that photos simply can’t the sound of little feet on the trail, the way my kids move through a space, the energy of a whole afternoon condensed into a few minutes. It made me want to offer this to my families too.

Why I’m Bringing Video Into My Family Sessions

My work has always been rooted in documentary storytelling. I don’t ask kids to pose or families to perform. I follow, I observe, I wait for the real thing. Video fits that philosophy perfectly — and pairing it with photography feels like a natural next step.

If the idea of having both photos and a short film from your session sounds exciting and let’s talk about what that could look like for your family.

a girl on rocks at starved rock park

Starved Rock is one of those places that does the work for you. The canyons, the waterfalls, the way the light filters through the trees it’s impossible not to feel something there. For my kids it was all about the adventure, and watching them explore completely on their own terms was a good reminder of why I photograph families the way I do. No prompts, no cheese. Just life.

    Redefining Oak Park Lifestyle Photography

The authenticity of this family is just so apparent, isn’t it? I had lunch with the beautiful Jazmine before our session, and she completely blew me away. She is someone who is continuously doing something to better her spiritual life and the lives of her community. This spirit of service and connection is exactly what I strive to capture in every Oak Park lifestyle photography session I document. As a Chicago Family Photographer these sessions are a dream. From the play time to even the taco eating haha, it was all so fun. I loved that we also got to focus a bit on their parents connection. Because at the end of the day it is what family is all about. This home was made for them and I love how they are growing to expand with the community.

A Firehouse Adventure and New Beginnings

They are hella inspiring, and the hearts of those girls are pure gold. I had the firsthand chance to explore their new adventure with the purchase of their firehouse—a space they have big plans for. Capturing this transition in such an iconic industrial setting was a dream. Furthermore, this session proves that family portraits don’t always need a park or a field. In Oak Park lifestyle photography, we find magic on rooftops and in the architecture of our daily lives. As a result, these photos serve as a powerful time capsule of a massive family milestone.

If you are looking for an inclusive storyteller in Oak Park, I would love to document your family’s next chapter. Whether you are moving into a new home or just want to capture the beauty of your current reality, my goal is to create editorial-style images that feel real. Elk Grove Newborn Photographer | Baby Gemma’s At-Home Story

Oh sweet baby! Looking back at this session makes my heart so full. As an Elk Grove newborn photographer, I feel incredibly lucky. Meeting Sarah and her family was a highlight for me. They make me so excited to document their growth. Every time they hire me, I see so much love. This is the specific kind of “realness” I look for. I am so passionate about documentary photography. I was honored to capture sweet Gemma’s birth. Seeing her again at home was a dream come true.

I met up with them for Ms. Gemma’s sweet newborn session a few weeks later. It was important to Sarah to capture these moments early. Babies change at “seconds speed.” Honestly, I remember this with my own children. I would wake up and realize they were changing day to day.

The Beauty of an Elk Grove Newborn Photographer Session

For this session, we focused on the first bath. We also captured quiet time with her adorable big brother. Mostly, we focused on the little details. Being an Elk Grove newborn photographer is a privilege. It allows me to step into these private, sacred spaces. I love to document the moments that usually go unseen. These are the memories that carry the most weight as the years pass. I look for tiny, peeling newborn toes and quiet family cuddles.

Honest Connection in the West Suburbs

I hope I get to see Ms. Gemma again soon. I can’t even imagine how much she has grown. If you are preparing for your own arrival, I have a recommendation. Check out Motherly’s guide to the first weeks at home. It is a wonderful resource for those early, beautiful days.est, unposed imagery. I love this part of my job as Chicago Newborn Photographer.
