  • A Morning at the Bahá’í Temple Gardens | Wilmette IL Family Session

A Morning at the Bahá’í Temple Gardens | Wilmette IL Family Session

There are sessions that remind you exactly why you do this work, and this Bahá’í Temple family photographer session in Wilmette was one of them. I’ve had the privilege of photographing this family before, so walking into our morning together at the Bahá’í Temple gardens felt like coming home. The grounds are stunning lush, historic, and full of the kind of light that makes you want to stay forever. On this particular morning, the sun was doing everything right, and the greens were so rich and alive they practically glowed.

V showed up ready. She picked her own outfit for our session that morning, which honestly tells you everything you need to know about her. She’s bright, expressive, and fully in charge — she led the way through the gardens like she’d been there a hundred times, and the camera loved every second of it. That kind of big personality makes for the best documentary sessions because you’re never waiting for something to happen. You’re just trying to keep up.

When a Bahá’í Temple Family Photographer Gets to Watch Kids Grow

And then there was N. I first met him at his newborn session, and seeing him now — this full-on little boy with opinions and energy and his whole self coming through — was one of those moments that stops you mid-shoot. The babyhood is almost gone. The big kid is right there. And this family’s love for him, and his sister’s love for him, was written all over every single frame.

What I love most about sessions like this one is that nobody was performing. The parents kissed while the kids tugged at their hands. V climbed on her mom in the grass. N belly-laughed at something only he understood. That’s the stuff. That’s what I’m always chasing.

Why the Bahá’í Temple Gardens Are Perfect for Family Sessions

The Bahá’í Temple gardens are one of my favorite spots for family sessions on Chicago’s north shore. The architecture, the mature trees, the open lawns. It honestly all works together to give you variety without ever having to travel far. The Bahá’í Temple of the Midwest sits in the heart of Wilmette. Its grounds are open to visitors, making it a surprisingly accessible and breathtaking backdrop. Therefore If you want to read more about why the north shore is such a special place to raise a family and document it, Wilmette Life is a great local resource. If you’re looking for a Wilmette family photographer who knows this location well, I’d love to show you what a morning here can look like for your family.

This is what honesty over poses looks like. Real kids with Real love. Real light. I would love to be the one to capture your families authenticity and be your Chicago Family Photographer.

  • Wheaton IL family photographer | The Flores Family

Wheaton IL family photographer | The Flores Family

When I first picked up my camera, I never imagined that families from those early years would still find their way back to me. But the Flores family did. As a Wheaton IL family photographer, some sessions feel like a reunion and this was one of them.

I photographed their oldest when he was little. Now he’s tall, confident, and full of personality. Watching him with his siblings genuinely stopped me in my tracks. The love in this family hasn’t just survived the years, it’s grown.

A Studio Session Full of Real Moments

First, we let the kids do what kids do. There were sibling snuggles, stolen kisses, and a little one planting a big smooch on his brother’s cheek. Everyone dissolved into giggles. That’s the kind of moment I live for as a Wheaton IL family photographer. It’s not something you can pose. It just happens when people feel comfortable.

Mom leaned her head into her son. Dad looked at his kids like they were the best thing he’d ever done. In short, this family was easy to photograph, because the connection was already there.

That’s the work I love most.

Blending Lifestyle and Portraiture as a Wheaton IL Family Photographer

This session was photographed at a studio in Wheaton, IL. I love studio sessions because the clean backdrop lets the family take center stage. However, I didn’t want stiff, formal portraits. Instead, my approach blends documentary candids with intentional posing. So you get frames that look beautiful on a gallery wall and moments that feel completely real.

Additionally, I edited some frames in black and white to bring out the raw emotion. While keeping others in color to show the warmth of the family’s connection.

Evanston Lighthouse Family Photographer | The Adri Photo Co.

The North Shore offers a specific kind of magic. Historic architecture meets the vast horizon of Lake Michigan. As an Evanston Lighthouse family photographer, I find this spot grounding and ethereal. The light seems to linger longer here. It catches the lake breeze and the unscripted laughter of a family at play.

A Yearly Tradition: Evanston Lighthouse Family Photography

This session was particularly special because I have had the honor of documenting this family’s story for several years now. Our journey started with a lifestyle session at their beautiful Evanston home, and now it has become a cherished tradition to gather here at the lighthouse to capture their daughters’ growth. There is something so rewarding about seeing how much has changed from one year to the next, yet seeing that their bond remains just as vibrant.

    Laughter, Exploration, and a Dalmatian

The girls are at such a wonderful age where the world is one big playground. They love to explore the grassy knolls surrounding the lighthouse just as much as they love running along the shoreline. We spent our time chasing the light between the historic stone walls and the beach, letting the girls lead the way.  Being an Evanston Lighthouse family photographer is fun because this location is incredibly versatile. With tall grass, sandy walkways and of course the beach itself.

Of course, no session for this family would be complete without their Dalmatian. Including the family dog is a non-negotiable for me—pets are such a massive part of the family story. Watching their pup navigate the beach alongside the girls added that extra layer of “real life” that I strive for in my hybrid documentary style. Whether it’s playing in the sand or exploring the trails near the Grosse Point Lighthouse, these are the moments that truly matter.

A young girl cuddling with a black and white spotted dog in a close-up shot.
A mother and her young daughter sitting together on a wooden bench, both smiling and enjoying a joyful moment in a park, surrounded by autumn leaves.
A young girl in a white hoodie walks along a beach, looking down with a smile, while a man in a leather jacket is seen in the background, slightly blurred.

Pro tip for the North Shore: Lake Michigan creates its own micro-climate. Even if it’s warm in Forest Park, the lighthouse can be 10 degrees cooler with a brisk breeze. I always suggest bringing a cinematic knit sweater or a stylish blanket to keep the girls cozy during those lakeside moments. I always arrive a little earlier since the parking is to be paid for. However on cold months you will find plenty of parking but summer is busy.

After my sessions I always stop for a latte. My favorite Evanston coffee shops are Collectivo and Cupitol coffee. I like to work from both of these spots, depending on how much time I have. See the full Evanston family photographer portfolio and experience guide.

  • Forest Park Family Photography | Documenting My Own

Forest Park Family Photography | Documenting My Own

Sometimes, a simple background is all you need. As a Forest Park family photography taker, I often look for interesting textures in our neighborhood. For this quick session, I chose the brick wall of a local pub. Initially, I loved the way the red brick contrasted with their outfits. However, the true value of these images is the connection they capture.

Working with the “Teenager Timer” If you have teenagers, you know they often have a “timer” for photos. My 14 and 12-year-olds are no different. Consequently, I have learned to work fast and effectively. I don’t aim for perfect poses. Instead, I work to get genuine smiles and real laughter. Because I know their rhythms, I can capture their essence before their patience runs out. Specifically, I want images that feel like them.

A United Front: Legacy as a Forest Park Family Photographer

These images are also special because of who was behind the scenes. My ex-husband helped act as a tripod while I directed the shots. Moreover, I was able to update photos of him with the kids. It is very important for our children to see us united. Ultimately, motherhood and family don’t always look one specific way. We prioritize showing up for them together.

A girl with long hair swirls playfully in front of a brick wall, captured in black and white.

Fast and Effective Storytelling You do not need an elaborate location for a soulful gallery. For example, a local street or a simple brick wall can work perfectly. This allows the focus to stay on the people in the frame. As a result, the images feel timeless and honest.

    • The Collective: Perfect for families who want a full, unhurried documentary experience.
    • The Motherhood Journey: A curated bundle ($1,499) for those starting their family story.

In conclusion, being a Forest Park family photography lover means finding beauty in the real and the raw. Therefore, I will always choose a genuine smile over a perfect pose.

  • Waterfall Glen Newborn Session

    Waterfall Glen Newborn Session

When a new baby arrives, many families assume a studio setting is the only option. But as a Chicago area family photographer specializing in genuine, documentary moments, I love encouraging families to opt for an outdoor experience! This beautiful Waterfall Glen Newborn Session with this family perfectly illustrates why. In addition unlike static posed sessions, choosing a location like Waterfall Glen in Lemont, IL, allows older siblings (like Baby M’s two sweet, animated older sisters) the freedom to move, explore, and connect naturally with their new brother.

Your Waterfall Glen Newborn Session: The Lifestyle Advantage

The beauty of having your Waterfall Glen Newborn Session outdoors is the freedom it offers. It captures the honest, gentle chaos of this new chapter while giving everyone space to breathe and play. Furthermore For this lovely family, this was their third time having me document a major life event you can see their previous family moments here: their stunning maternity session and an epic birth arrival of this cute boy. It is truly an honor to witness their family grow!

I genuinely wasn’t sure how well this location, family and time would work out. Specifically everyone but the parents were unpredictable. I love the comedy of a puppy, two older sisters and a new baby. Thankfully my clients parent similarly to me, we let the chaos unfold, we cherish the moments of true childhood. I captured this beautiful boy’s birth at the burr ridge birth center.

A childhood that feel so genuine, that is the type of family moments I love to capture. If there was something I could have shot more from this session, it would prob be a few more close up details. Otherwise this was a perfect session, the golden sun, the outfits and the moments. Which make everything to lovely when it all comes together. I am so glad I had a bunch of littles who just worked so well and went along with the beauty of the session.

A Cozy Session With an At Home Oak Park Photographer

As an At Home Oak Park Photographer, I love capturing families in the comfort of their own homes. At-home sessions allow everyone to relax, which helps the photos feel warm, honest, and personal. They also create a space where real connection naturally comes forward.

A Family I’ve Loved Photographing Through the Years

I have been photographing this sweet family since their oldest daughter was still in her mom’s belly. Our first session together was a maternity shoot near Thatcher Woods in River Forest. Since then, we have met many times, and I have watched their family grow. Because of this long history, walking into their home for this shoot felt familiar and joyful.

The Beauty of Their Oak Park Home

Their home is a classic Oak Park space—full of charm, natural light, and small details that tell their story. It provided the perfect backdrop for an easy and connected lifestyle session. The oldest sister, who is full of personality, brought so much fun to the morning. She laughed, played, and helped welcome her new baby sister. Meanwhile, her parents moved through the session with calm and tenderness, which made everything flow beautifully.

A happy family scene with a man holding a young girl while a woman smiles at them, set in a softly lit room.

Why Connection Matters in At-Home Photography

As a photographer who values real connection, I love moments that feel unposed and true. During this session, those moments showed up again and again. There were soft newborn snuggles, cheerful bursts of toddler energy, and quiet pauses where everyone simply breathed in this new chapter. All of these small interactions came together to create a gallery filled with heart.

Being their At Home Oak Park Photographer year after year has been such an honor. Each session adds another piece to their story, and I am grateful to help them hold onto these memories.

A Joyful At-Home Session: One Year Old Photography in Chicago

There is something so magical about reaching the first birthday milestone. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing this sweet boy’s one year old photography in Chicago. We decided to keep things relaxed by staying right in the comfort of their own home. Consequently, the energy of the session was incredibly calm and natural.

As a photographer, I love seeing how much a baby’s personality has blossomed by twelve months. This little guy was all smiles and curiosity. In addition, he had the best “assistant” by his side—the family dog! While some might worry about pets during a session, I find they add a beautiful layer of connection. Therefore, I always encourage families to include their furry best friends in the frame.

Why Choose an At-Home Milestone Session?

Many people think of “cake smashes” in a studio for a first birthday. However, I believe that one year old photography in Chicago is often better captured in your own living room. This is where your baby feels most secure. Because they are in a familiar environment, their true personality really shines through.

During this session, we focused on simple interactions and cozy cuddles. Specifically, we captured the way he looked at his parents and the soft light hitting his nursery. Furthermore, staying at home meant we could follow his lead. If he needed a quick snack or a break, we just paused. Ultimately, this resulted in a gallery full of authentic, happy memories.

A baby lying in a crib with a surprised expression, reaching out towards hanging toys above.

    Capturing Your Family’s Story

This first year goes by so quickly. One minute you are bringing them home, and the next, they are almost walking! As a result, having these professional images to look back on is priceless. If you are looking for one year old photography in Chicago, I would love to document this big milestone for you.

As a mom of teens, I don’t get my daily baby fix anymore, so spending time with families like this truly fills my heart. Watching a baby grow through the first year — from sleepy newborn to curious toddler — is such a beautiful reminder of how quickly time passes. That’s why milestone sessions are so meaningful. They freeze little chapters of family life you’ll never get back, but will always want to remember.

A Real Day in the Life of a Sweet Warrenville Family

Documentary family photography Warrenville IL is one of my favorite ways to capture families because it’s all about real life, real moments, and the heart of home. This adorable family had two fun-loving boys: a big brother full of energy and a little brother who melted my heart. Inside their cozy Warrenville home, the laughter was nonstop. Mom nursed the baby while big brother jumped around the bed, filling the room with joy. It was perfectly imperfect exactly what I love about photographing families in their natural environment.

Why I Love At-Home Documentary Family Photography

There’s something truly special about photographing families inside the home where childhood memories are made. The walls, the light, the chaos they all tell part of your family story. I believe your home is the most meaningful backdrop for family photos, and this session was the perfect reminder of that. Every giggle, hug, and tender moment unfolded naturally.

    Let’s Tell Your Family’s Story

Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do turning ordinary family life into extraordinary keepsakes. If you’ve ever thought about a session that celebrates your family’s real story, a documentary family photography session in Warrenville IL might be the perfect way to remember this season forever.

Backyard Documentary Family Photography in Warrenville IL

After we finished indoors, we stepped outside to their beautiful garden — a little world of its own. There were chickens wandering, fresh fruit and vegetables growing, and the boys proudly showed me their favorite spots to play. Their big backyard was full of life and future memories. It’s these unscripted moments that make documentary family photography so powerful and lasting. I hope I get to go back and play in this backyard some more in the future. I also just got some inspiration for my future home.

  • Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos | Fall Family Session in Chicago

Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos | Fall Family Session in Chicago

There is a quiet, breathtaking magic found in Montrose Bird Sanctuary photos. While many Chicago families flock to the typical city parks, this hidden gem offers a unique blend of wild prairie grass and an iconic skyline view—the perfect backdrop for families who want to feel “away from it all” without leaving the city. During this October session, the golden hour light hit the autumn foliage perfectly, allowing this sweet family to simply play, explore, and be themselves.

Why I Love Capturing Montrose Bird Sanctuary Photos

The beauty of a Montrose Bird Sanctuary photo session lies in the variety. One moment you are surrounded by towering reeds and native wildflowers, and the next, you turn around to see the Sears Tower peeking through the trees. Furthermore, the space is vast, which is a huge advantage for families with toddlers. Instead of being confined to a small paved area, children have the freedom to run along the woodchip paths and explore the natural “nooks” of the sanctuary.

A happy family scene featuring a dad and mom holding their smiling daughter in a sunlit outdoor setting with colorful foliage in the background.

The Best Time for Your Fall Family Portraits

Timing is everything when it comes to photography in Chicago. Consequently, I always recommend scheduling your session during the “Golden Hour”—the hour just before sunset. Because the sanctuary sits right on Lake Michigan, the light reflects off the water and creates a soft, glowing haze that makes the autumn colors pop. Additionally, the fall season brings out deep oranges and dried tans in the prairie grass, providing a textures-rich environment that looks incredible in print.

Choosing Your Outfits for a Prairie Session

When planning your Montrose Bird Sanctuary photos, I suggest leaning into a “coordinated but not matched” look. Since the background is full of natural textures like grass and wood, earthy tones work best. For example, deep rust, mustard yellow, and forest green complement the fall scenery beautifully. Most importantly, choose comfortable footwear. Because we will be walking through some uneven terrain to get those perfect skyline shots, stylish boots are usually the best choice for moms and kids alike.

A Bright Lifestyle Session: At Home Newborn Photographer in Chicago

Finding the right at home newborn photographer in Chicago is essential. You want to capture those first precious moments in your own space. My newborn sessions are always special. Consequently, it was a joy to return to this home after shooting their maternity session. Getting to see this family transition from three to four was such a privilege.

A Spunky Big Sister and Baby C

One of the highlights of this session was Baby C’s big sister. She was absolutely full of personality! First, she showed off her favorite corners of the house. Next, she helped me watch over her new brother. Her energy made the session so much fun.

Capturing the bond between a toddler and a new sibling is rewarding. As an at home newborn photographer in Chicago, I see this often. Toddlers are much more comfortable in their own environment. Therefore, her playful personality truly shines through in the gallery.

Utilizing Natural Light in the Nursery

Baby C was a dream to photograph. We spent the morning capturing quiet, tender moments between him and his parents. As a baby lover, I love seeing how a family interacts in their home.

We utilized the gorgeous natural light in the nursery and the living room. This created a bright and airy feel. Additionally, it perfectly matched the family’s modern style. The simplicity of a white onesie and a soft blanket allows the focus to remain on the baby.

Why Choose an At Home Newborn Photographer in Chicago?

There are many benefits to a lifestyle session. For instance, you don’t have to worry about the unpredictable Chicago weather. Furthermore, you avoid the stress of getting a toddler out the door on time.

As an at home newborn photographer in Chicago, my goal is to document effortless love. Whether it’s a big sister giving a kiss or the family snuggling on the sofa, these memories matter. Overall, this session with Baby C is a perfect example of how relaxed a lifestyle session can be.
