    As a Jefferson Park baby photographer, I find that capturing babies is a unique experience. I first worked with Mara’s parents during their maternity session. Initially, they chose to push back their newborn session. I completely respect that decision. This season of life has been overwhelming for everyone. Recently, I finally had the honor to meet sweet baby Mara. She was absolutely gorgeous and full of smiles.

    An Outdoor Start for a Jefferson Park Baby Photographer

    We started our session at a favorite local park in Chicago. Specifically, we returned to the same location from their maternity photos. However, the mosquitoes were very active that evening. We realized quickly that we needed a new plan. Consequently, we decided to move the session to their nearby home. Furthermore, finding a flexible Jefferson Park baby photographer is important when nature does not cooperate.

    Transitioning to a Lifestyle Session at Home

    I did not mind the change at all. In fact, their beautiful bungalow was the perfect backdrop for my work. Capturing babies in their own space is always joyous. Because they are in a familiar place, their curiosity truly shines. Mara’s eyes were full of wonder. Additionally, every new experience was met with amazement.

    As a chicago family photographer, I love seeing how families document these days. I noticed photographs displayed all over their home. Moreover, I could see Mara’s progression from a tiny infant to a little person. I hope this family remembers these days fondly. As a result of our move indoors, we captured some of my favorite nursing and crib moments.

    Documenting Milestones in Chicago

    The days are long, but the years are very short. Therefore, I focus on “honesty over poses” in every session. Seeing Mara at nine months old was a treat. She is becoming such a vibrant little person. Finally, stay tuned for more milestones from this sweet girl!

    Documentary Storytelling with a Chicago Newborn Photographer

    Being an At Home Documentary Newborn has its advantages. I get to use my baby fever to make beautiful images for my clients , I have learned that the most beautiful moments are the ones that happen in the quiet in-betweens. Consequently, this session became a natural extension of the family’s own rhythm. Their home served as a stunning canvas of soft, natural light and intentional textures. In addition, I must mention their charming feline companions. While I am typically a dog person, these cats possessed a cool demeanor that was undeniably endearing.

    Morning Light and Acoustic Rhythms in Chicago

    Our time together felt entirely effortless. However, Dad is still working on his comedic timing! Allyson and I shared a laugh as he tried to recall a new joke. Similarly, I hope to hear an update on his storytelling progress during our next session.     Today I have some self portrait inspiration chicago, I bought myself some sunflowers recently. It’s one of my favorite flowers mainly because of the big connection to the sun and how they are so in love with the sun. Yes I know all flowers technically need the sun, ha. But it seems to me like sunflowers are this special letter from the sun to us. They bathe in it, live for the sun. Then in a short amount of time die. They are flowers that make a statement. Even if you buy a bunch of them, every single sunflower has their own personality it seems. They remind me of Mexican Art. They remind me of resilience. I think of fire and power when I see that flower. All other flowers, especially in my favorite group are dainy, soft and beautiful but this flower is different. Yes, you can’t deny its beauty, but the thing I love most of all is their grandeur. It’s a helluva flower.

    Self Portrait inspiration in Chicago

    I started this self portrait series with the intent to focus on my hair. & how i’ve outgrown the hate for it finally at 31. Perhaps hate is a strong word but I felt it in waves towards my hair. I guess somehow the wilted sunflowers on my coffee table became the star of this series. And I don’t mind that at all. My hair can have it’s shinning moment another time.

    I’m currently relearning and unlearning things I couldn’t even imagine I’d be in the middle of at 31. I stupidly had this notion when I was younger exhausted by life that by 30, I would be Ok. And it’s not that I’m not Ok, but it seems that the thing that I greatly tried to avoid. The very thing I didn’t want. I became. & now I am so grateful for that. For the way it made me come to acceptance. Im in the middle of healing, but more importantly in the middle of living.

    You see when you aren’t your most authentic self, you keep pushing forward regardless of the pain to the next milestone. You think to yourself, perhaps when I have kids I’ll feel better. Perhaps when I get married it will be Ok. Or when I am wiser and older, I will finally get relief. But relief never comes because it doesn’t really exist. The tension we hold. That’s just how it feels when you’re constantly running. God knows I’m an expert at running, I could run forever if they’d let me. Pushing everything far far away from the front of my mind. I finally had this little rip in my heart, it brought me to my knees and it caused me to make all of the life changes I am currently living. My heart caught up with my mind I guess. So I am buying myself sunflowers because I am learning the difference between being alone and loneliness.

    31 Hours: Our Impulsive Road Trip to California

    Last week, completely unplanned and stupidly so, I drove to California. If you don’t know, that is 31 damn hours from my home in Illinois. Road trips with kids can be daunting; however, this impulsive journey was exactly what my soul needed. Was it a bit wild? Probably. Consequently, I have no regrets about the decision.

    Planning Impulsive Road Trips With Kids

    On Wednesday my mom mentioned the idea, and by Thursday night, we were already out on the road. I drove through the night fueled by crappy gas station coffee and good music. While everyone else slept, it was just me and my thoughts. Lately, I haven’t allowed myself to just sit and be with myself. Additionally, 31 hours is a significant amount of thinking time. Usually, road trips with kids involve constant snacks and distractions, but the quiet of the night highway felt like a necessary reset.

    I wish I had taken more photographs during the drive. Unfortunately, I always regret not taking enough. I did manage to get in the frame with my kids, which is getting harder to do as they grow. My brother helped capture some of our time at the beach once we arrived. Furthermore, even though I wish I had more to show, I tried my best to be present.

    FFinding Peace in the Chaos

    We had so many deep conversations during the drive. As a result, we also had plenty of bickering fights. It was chaos and peace all at once. I truly can’t believe how much beauty is out there across this country. The route is incredible and it’s easy to get mesmerized by the open road.

    If you are planning your own road trips with kids, my advice is to just go. Don’t wait for the perfect plan. The time alone, the music, and the shifting landscapes reminded me that wherever you are in life, you will be okay. Therefore, if you can’t cope with life right now, just go take a damn cross-country trip like I did.

    Furthermore, these sessions are all about the connection between parents and their children. Because the Lincoln Park Zoo area is so walkable, we were able to move between locations easily. Although it was a busy afternoon, we found plenty of quiet spots for the family to just be themselves. Ultimately, these are the memories that matter most.

    Specifically, one of my favorite parts of a Lincoln Park family session is how the landscape changes with the light. The Honeycomb structure provides a unique backdrop; consequently, it contrasts beautifully with the natural greenery.

    As a chicago family photographer I love letting their little one explore safely while I capture those authentic moments. Because the nature boardwalk is so peaceful, these sessions are perfect for documenting the connection between parents and children. In addition, the ducks and local wildlife always add a touch of magic to the day. We finished our session at the Ice Cream shoppe near the entrance of the zoo. Summer in Chicago is just unmatched if you ask me. The vibes are dreamy, with th sun, the wind and the laughter in the air.

    I recently had the pleasure of documenting Hannah and Eric’s Lincoln Park maternity photos in the heart of Chicago. Sweet December is here, and the time to meet this sweet little baby is nearing. Time has absolutely flown by.

    I’ve been pregnant a number of times and have given birth just twice. However, both times were very different experiences. I brought those babies home and I was a different person. After my son, I was a mother for the first time. He was big, beautiful, and full of wonder.

    In contrast, my daughter surprised me with difficultness. I thought I was a pro by then. However, she swiftly humbled me with her big, big cries. I’ve said it before that being a photographer means you’re often meeting people at the highlights in their life.

    The Best Backdrop for Lincoln Park Maternity Photos

    Hannah and Eric are about to be first-time parents. Therefore, it is my honor to capture and witness this milestone. Being a part of someone’s birth team is the biggest deal of my life and I cherish it so.

    Specifically, I’m so happy we were able to find a moment in the current world chaos to capture their happiness emerging. You can feel the love, and you can see the devotion. Little do they know that the way they will parent is already apparent. You can see it in the way they see each other and in the way they hold each other.

    As a Chicago Maternity Photographer I fully believe that the location is secondary to your clients. maybe even 3rd in importance. My clients are first and their emotions second.. location is the last thing that matters to me. In this session we used locations I feel often feel overlooked, in the winter especially. I love to cling to ever greens, and the outside of the Lincoln Park greenhouse has beautiful evergreens. We also walked over to the Peggy Notebaert museum to use the outside. The dried up tall winter grass gave us some texture. Furthermore, I recommend checking the Lincoln Park Conservatory
     website for seasonal bloom schedules. This ensures we have the most colorful environment for your session. Whether we are capturing the architecture or the quiet garden paths, the goal is to document this fleeting season of life in an authentic way.

    To ensure your session feels authentic, I recommend choosing a location that resonates with your story. Lincoln Park is iconic because it blends urban architecture with lush, green landscapes. Whether we are capturing the skyline or the quiet garden paths, the goal is to document this fleeting season of life.

    Furthermore, the timing of your session is key. Most families choose to shoot between 28 and 34 weeks. This allows us to capture that beautiful “glow” while ensuring you still feel comfortable moving around the park.     I can’t believe we’re here, so close to December and just about to celebrate Thanksgiving. As I prepare for our upcoming River Forest family photos, I’ve been reflecting on how things are looking different in the future for us. Perhaps this is too heavy and personal for my photography page, or perhaps it’s just what my clients need from me.

    To see me is to go a little deeper into who I am. I want you to see the person behind the lens. Specifically, I capture the beauty of family because it is my passion. My own family is also my passion. If I am to live my one wild and precious life the way I want, then I guess I’ll have to be judged.

    I am so grateful for my soon-to-be ex-husband who agreed to do this for me. In actuality, I know he knows it’s for them. While we may not have always modeled an incredible marriage, we will ensure they see unconditional love and friendship moving forward.

    Reflecting on a Decade of Motherhood

    My twenties started with having a baby boy and launching my business. During that time, I absorbed everything I could. In the last decade, I have also launched photographer communities and workshops across the United States. I taught others to find their voice and even dabbled in having my own magazine.

    However, all of that would mean nothing without them. I was 21 when my son was born, shy of 22 by mere days. What an incredible journey it has been!

    Beginning the Next Chapter

    I am 31 now. The best part of getting older is realizing that you actually know nothing. Such a humbling thing to acknowledge! Within this nothingness, I will begin my next decade. I hope I can sit here at 41 still admiring all of the greatness that has come.

    Therefore, I refuse to focus on the “what-could-have-been.” I hope I am forever a glass-half-full kind of girl, no matter what comes next.

    The Story Behind These River Forest Family Photos

    About this session: I will forever love our chalk wall. While I probably can’t recreate this in my new rental, we have drawn and played a multitude of fun games on it. Specifically, I’ve been surprised by love notes from my children written there. I have also seen some incredible art skills displayed on this wall. I don’t want to take all the credit, but maybe that is a little of me rubbing off on them!

    In reality, we know all children are great artists. I am only happy mine constantly choose to share their work with me so often.

    Location Scouting for River Forest Family Photos

    Initially, I wanted to use the chalk wall as a backdrop for a few portraits then head out to find something different. I have driven past a specific green wall many times, always hopeful to have a session there at some point. Although some people struggle to see beauty in an “ugly” green wall, that is why there are people like me.

    As a Chicago Family Photographer & mom I understand that the point of a session is not the background, but the love and fun represented in front of it. From a chalk wall to a green wall, I love how these images taken under a pathway in  River Forest with my family came out. My sister even helped me take the group ones! I didn’t trust a tripod in the middle of a street with winds and cars flowing by.

    Ultimately, I hope we can make this happen every year until my kiddos finally say no. I hope you all have an amazing bunch of holidays!

    The absolute most kind of people also happen to be the most beautiful. Sometimes I travel a bit outside of my area to lovely places like for Homer Glen Family Photos. We did the math during their session and I have been photographing their beautiful family since before little miss E was even alive. How insanely special is that?

    I’ve seen two of their stunning homes and have watched the kids go through various changes. Now they’ve added an adorable pup! I always say that Matt won the wife lottery, but you can see from these images that they are all so beyond lucky to have each other. I cannot stress enough how welcoming and lovely they are. Getting to catch up and see the brand-new adventures they’ve made is so much fun.

    The Magic of Homer Glen Family Photos

    Miss Z + E make me jealous for my own little Zoe; I know she wishes she had a sister. I myself had two, but they came almost a decade after me. It is also crazy to see just how tall Mr. A got, close to being over six feet. He will absolutely surpass his dad soon!

    I have said it before and I’ll say it again: there is no such thing as a bad location. We shot these Homer Glen family photos in their front yard, around their house, and in the back. There is always some kind of magic everywhere.

    I heard something recently. It said ” dreaming is a form of planning”. It resonated wildly with my soul. Everything I’ve ever wanted started as a dream. Me with my wild expectations. Most of the time when I would voice my dreams to others it would sound like I lost my damn mind. It always made me feel slightly crazy. But the thing that I have learned is that people lack imagination. Most are living and acting from a place of fear. Without intention. I have always felt this nagging voice for more. Not more in a form of quantifiable things, but more beauty, more aliveness more feelings. It’s probably why I felt pulled towards this medium. I want to record and preserve as many feelings as I can. I guess I’m a junky for that.

    I took these self portraits right before heading out and capturing my loves. But I felt the need to make a separate post because I want to encourage others to dream. I never grew up being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, so perhaps thats how I’ve allowed myself to be whatever the (insert bad word) I want. I am a bunch of things. I’ve dreamt about most. Being a mother was a big one. I dreamt of building up little babies to be the best versions of themselves. I dreamt of a marriage, and even though it wasn’t what I expected I am also not too proud to say perhaps that dream can look different now. What ever you want your life to be in the future, you first have to dream it. You have to stop fitting into the mold of what people expect of you. I hope my children read my words someday and look over what they’ve achieved and know full well that they made that happen. Not for others but for themselves. I’ve had some wild dreams lately. Most of them are absolutely within reach currently they just take some work. Others are timely, others I will have to give up. But I’m excited for it all.

    I’ve been thinking of starting a personal blog to write more about those dreams, I’m still debating. We’ll see what happens and the direction I go in .
