    Next, we spent the morning wandering through Henry’s nursery. as a Portage Park newborn photographer, I love chicago light. We followed the soft morning light that filters through the trees in this charming neighborhood. Because these homes have such unique character, Henry’s house was a dream to shoot in. The neutral tones provided a calm, timeless backdrop. Consequently, the focus remained entirely on the connection between Henry and his parents.

    Furthermore, the large windows in the living room allowed for some beautiful, airy family portraits. Since we were in the comfort of their own home, everyone felt much more at ease.

    Portage Park Newborn Photography Experience

    Additionally, many parents worry about their house being “perfect” for a photoshoot. However, I always remind them that the best memories aren’t curated. They are lived. During this Portage Park session, we focused on the little things. For example, we captured the way Henry curled his fingers around his mom’s hand. We also photographed the quiet snuggles on the sofa.

    Finally, by staying at home, the atmosphere remains relaxed. There’s no need to pack a diaper bag or brave the Chicago weather. Instead, we can take breaks for feedings or changes. This ensures the baby stays comfortable and the gallery feels authentic. Moreover, these images will serve as a permanent reminder of Henry’s very first room. It was truly an honor to photograph this family in the heart of Chicago, IL. It is so special to be a part of this families growth, as a Chicago Family Photographer.

    The Calm Atmosphere of a Northwest Indiana Home

    Furthermore, I headed to Northwest Indiana to meet Kat and Eric. When I arrived, Kat’s sister was incredibly welcoming. She prepared snacks while we all settled in. Consequently, the atmosphere felt safe and warm. Kat and Eric were upstairs, leaning into the rhythm of labor. I love that I captured Kat’s smile early on. Specifically, it gets tougher to smile as labor progresses. Because of her strength, she made it look easy. Similarly, the support in the room was palpable.

    The Beauty of Chicago Home Birth Photography and Support

    Kat birthed completely supported by her amazing husband. Moreover, she was able to rest and eat plenty of popsicles. Because she had such a great team, the labor felt deeply intentional. In addition, having a skilled doula made a massive difference. If you are looking for support, I always recommend checking out Evidence Based Birth for great resources. As a result of her preparation, Kat birthed her sweet little guy in the tub after sunset. Similarly, the celebration afterward was just as beautiful. We even popped some bubbly and enjoyed a vegan cake!

    In conclusion, it was truly a wonderful celebration of love and I am so lucky to be a Chicago Birth Photographer . I am so honored to have been part of this journey. When documenting Chicago home birth photography, I work with amazing doulas. Louise was there every step of the way. Therefore, I felt like part of an incredible team. Following this, the family settled in for their first night together. Finally, thank you to Kat and Eric for letting me document this sacred transition.     With so much uncertainty in the world, working with these tiny humans is a necessary pause. In fact, newborns are so dependent on us to show up for them. This little family is just starting their journey, and there is so much hope in that beginning.

    Additionally, this was my first time back at Prentice since the world changed in 2020. While the world may look and feel different now, the pure joy of new parenthood never changes. For example, the way a mother looks at her twins in those first 48 hours is a timeless emotion. Just two weeks after visiting this stunning home to welcome Finnian for his birth, I returned to capture the family a little more relaxed and settled into a routine.

    Well, a “sorta” routine. I know the Lundes are very intentional, slowly paced people. While newborn sessions can be hectic—and even a little wild—we always manage to capture the beauty of it all. These boys are so lovely and always eager to show me their personalities. We’ve worked together enough now that I think they trust me to just “be.” They know I’m there to capture them as they are, without pushing for more than they can do. I always strive to be patient, letting moments unfold and staying ready to roll with the beauty of childhood.
