As an Itasca IL newborn photographer, I find that visiting repeat clients is completely magical. Time is so beautiful and fleeting. The Colello Family Lifestyle Session

The Colello family is beyond kind and welcoming. Initially, I photographed them in their home with their brand new baby boy three years ago. Recently, they expanded their little family by one sweet baby girl named Lucy. Coincidentally, she is the mirror image of her big brother! Mom told me she felt like she gave birth to the same baby twice. Consequently, it is hilarious to see how similar sibling genes can be.

Toddler Fun with an Itasca IL Newborn Photographer

It can be a challenge to work with toddlers and a new baby simultaneously. However, I feel like those are my favorite types of sessions to document! Although toddlers can be difficult to pose, they are also so much fun to observe. I consider myself a baby person through and through. Specifically, by toddlerhood, a child’s whole personality is vibrant and 100% unique.

It often takes extra work to get a toddler to warm up to a stranger in their home. But sweet big brother William was very open and excited for me to be there. In addition, he was eager to show off his new sister to the camera. Finding an Itasca IL newborn photographer who understands the wild energy of a toddler is key to a successful, stress-free session.

Capturing the Chaos and Beauty

We spent our time together in the kitchen and the nursery. Finding Magic in the Ordinary

We spent the afternoon capturing the little things that make a family whole. Specifically, we looked for the quiet glances and the spontaneous laughter. Because I am a specialist in documentary work, I know that these moments are the ones that matter most. We didn’t worry about stiff poses or matching outfits. One of the greatest joys of my work is watching a family grow over the years. Specifically, I originally took this sweet boy’s newborn photos. Therefore, I was thrilled to see him again for a beautiful Itasca summer family session. Don’t you love when things come full circle? Now, he’s sporting some quite peculiar and most beautiful red locks of hair. I honestly couldn’t believe the transformation!

The Magic of Summer Clouds and Tall Grass

We couldn’t have asked for a better day. While many people look for clear blue skies, a great Itasca summer family session often benefits from dramatic clouds. These clouds acted as a natural diffuser. Consequently, the rich, earthy colors of the landscape really popped without any harsh shadows. This created a creamy, dreamy light that is ideal for lifestyle portraits.

Additionally, the tall grass at this location added a beautiful layer of movement. There is something so nostalgic about a toddler wandering through waist-high greenery. During this Itasca summer family session, the deep emerald tones of the summer grass provided a stunning contrast. The green background made the boy’s vibrant red hair look intentional and timeless. Furthermore, the way the wind caught the grass helped create those “unposed” moments that I strive for as a photographer.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography Itasca | Baby W At-Home Session

New life near the holidays always feels a little more magical. I photographed this sweet little family right before Christmas, and their home was the perfect, cozy backdrop for lifestyle newborn photography Itasca. They were so gracious and inviting from the moment I walked through the door.

Meeting new parents always takes me back to my own experiences. There is a specific kind of quiet chaos and immense love that fills a home during those first few weeks. Baby W is truly the luckiest little dude; his parents gushed over him the entire time we were together.

My favorite part of the session was winning over the “first baby” their pup. At first, he seemed a bit hesitant, perhaps feeling protective now that a new human was in his space. Eventually, he couldn’t resist and was all over the baby, showing off that loyal bond. These unposed, honest moments between a growing family and their pets are exactly why I love being a Chicago at-home newborn photographer

“Being based so close to Itasca, I find myself driving through this charming community constantly. It has become one of my favorite pockets for sessions because of the variety it offers. While I adore the intimacy of an at-home session like Baby W’s, I’m also frequently at Songbird Slough for outdoor family portraits. There is something about the way the light hits the tall grasses there that feels so cinematic and honest—much like the ‘milky city lights’ mentioned in the poem above.

Whether we are documenting your story inside your living room or wandering through the trails at the Slough, my goal remains the same: capturing the genuine connection that makes your family unique.
