For this Pleasant Home family session, we were all so grateful that the Chicago weather gave us a huge break. As any local photographer knows, you just never know what you’ll find in late autumn. Consequently, the soft light against the historic Prairie School architecture was a dream to document.

    Documentary Storytelling at a Wheaton Nursery

    Their story actually began in a tiny apartment not far from this local nursery. Consequently, it was fitting that we returned for a tree farm session to document their latest chapter. I also want to give a huge shout-out to the owners of this place; we are so grateful for their inviting ways. They picked a tree then headed for some indoor warmth, a cup of joe, and hot chocolate for the kids. In fact, these “in-between” moments are where the real magic happens.

    A Proud Big Sister in Schaumburg

    Did I mention that her big sister is only one year old? She is still just a baby herself, yet she is already feeling so proud of her new role.     We had a blast playing and shooting in the tall summer fields of the West Suburbs. Specifically, the children were so sweet and acted like little “bug encyclopedias” as they explored the grass. Because I prioritize “honesty over poses,” I let them lead the way through the field.     The Magic of Summer Clouds and Tall Grass

    We couldn’t have asked for a better day. While many people look for clear blue skies, a great Itasca summer family session often benefits from dramatic clouds. These clouds acted as a natural diffuser. Consequently, the rich, earthy colors of the landscape really popped without any harsh shadows. This created a creamy, dreamy light that is ideal for lifestyle portraits.

    The Calm After the Storm: Baby A’s First Days

    It feels like this was the calm after the storm. As an Elgin newborn photographer, I was honored to capture this little family just two weeks after they welcomed their newest addition at home. In reality, this is probably the beginning of a whole new storm—a beautiful, chaotic, and soul-stretching one at that.

    Angela, however, seems fully equipped to deal with the toughest of storms. Specifically, after seeing the way she so calmly gave birth and the way she treats her oldest child, I know for sure she is ready for this sweet baby girl. This whole family is just inspiring. They welcomed me into their home with such warmth that I felt incredibly comfortable from the moment I walked in. Ultimately, their connection made my job feel effortless.
