Edgewater Newborn Photographer | Baby at Home Hannah + Eric

I believe that one of the favorite parts of my job is the storytelling. As an Edgewater newborn photographer, I have the joy and honor to capture full stories for growing families. I often meet them right when they find out their life will change. Subsequently, I get a chance to see them at different points on the road to that change.

Working as an Edgewater Newborn Photographer

For Hannah and Eric, I know this journey looked quite different. Being pregnant during a pandemic was surely an experience on its own. Still, we managed to capture all of the beauty of this incredible journey they were on. If you haven’t seen them yet, you can take a peek at their Maternity session and their emotional Home birth story. Being their Whole story photographer and more important their Chicago Newborn photographer for this session was the greatest honor.

    Life at Home in Edgewater

Now that they have transitioned from homebirth to a full home, the storytelling continues. As an Edgewater newborn photographer, I love seeing how a space transforms once a baby arrives. The nursery is full, the light is soft, and the connection is deeper than ever. In addition, lifestyle sessions at home allow for a relaxed pace that newborn babies truly need.

Edgewater Baby Photography and Community Support

Furthermore, I always encourage my Chicago clients to look into local support systems during the postpartum period. Specifically, the Family Connects Chicago program offers wonderful in-home nurse visits. Indeed, having that extra layer of support makes the transition to a “full home” much smoother.

Why Choose an Edgewater Newborn Photographer?

When you choose a local photographer, you are choosing someone who understands the unique charm of your neighborhood. Specifically, Edgewater homes offer beautiful natural light and character that make for perfect documentary backdrops. Moreover, staying at home for your session eliminates the stress of traveling with a newborn.

In conclusion, capturing Hannah and Eric’s transition into parenthood has been a highlight of my career. Essentially, my goal is to document the “real” moments that you will cherish forever.

Edgewater birth photographer | Hannah and Eric

As an Edgewater birth photographer, I believe that each birth I attend is a beautiful unfolding story. While every client and lighting situation is different, first-time parents often share a similar energy. They are all at the precipice of a life-changing moment unlike anything they have experienced before. I can always sense the nervousness and the profound anticipation in the air.

The Experience of an Edgewater Birth Photographer

When I arrived at the apartment, Hannah was spending time in the bathroom, challenge-lit by a single candle. In moments like this, where my lens struggles to find the subject, I choose to freelens. Because I trust that thin slice of focus, I am able to capture the raw emotion of the room. It reminded me of stories I have read before of women birthing in quiet, sacred spaces. Clearly, she craved the coziness of that room, and it seemed to soothe her during labor.

    Synchronicity and Support

I also witnessed a beautiful togetherness between the two of them. As a Chicago birth photographer, seeing a couple move with such synchronicity is a mighty thing to witness. Eric was a phenomenal birth partner. However, Hannah’s vigor and courage were the true stars of the show. She moved that baby down by trusting her body and allowing herself to be completely vulnerable.

Finding Purpose in the Labor Room

Perhaps there is nothing but vulnerability allowed at home births, and that is truly the beauty of them. My job is to capture these fleeting moments. Furthermore, with every birth I attend, I leave with an even deeper sense of purpose. The unique way a mother labors always leaves me breathless. Specifically, a rush of love for life fills me to the brim every time a new soul arrives.

In conclusion, I am so grateful to be a part of these stories. If you are looking for a Chicago birth photographer to document your own journey, I would love to connect. For more information on local birthing options, you can visit the Chicago Volunteer Doulas website for wonderful community resources.

River Forest Family Photos | Adri De La Cruz

I can’t believe we’re here, so close to December and just about to celebrate Thanksgiving. As I prepare for our upcoming River Forest family photos, I’ve been reflecting on how things are looking different in the future for us. Perhaps this is too heavy and personal for my photography page, or perhaps it’s just what my clients need from me.

A family portrait featuring a smiling father with two children, one boy and one girl, in a cozy indoor setting with bookshelves and greenery in the background. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

To see me is to go a little deeper into who I am. I want you to see the person behind the lens. Specifically, I capture the beauty of family because it is my passion. My own family is also my passion. If I am to live my one wild and precious life the way I want, then I guess I’ll have to be judged.

I am so grateful for my soon-to-be ex-husband who agreed to do this for me. In actuality, I know he knows it’s for them. While we may not have always modeled an incredible marriage, we will ensure they see unconditional love and friendship moving forward.

Black and white image of three children posing together with smiles, one boy in a striped sweater, a girl in a white top, and another child partially hidden behind them, with a bookshelf in the background. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

As I climbed out of the tub and shook my hair dry, I told myself: Maybe in a different life.

    Isn’t that interesting?

As if I had more than one.

    -Untamed

Reflecting on a Decade of Motherhood

My twenties started with having a baby boy and launching my business. During that time, I absorbed everything I could. In the last decade, I have also launched photographer communities and workshops across the United States. I taught others to find their voice and even dabbled in having my own magazine.

However, all of that would mean nothing without them. I was 21 when my son was born, shy of 22 by mere days. What an incredible journey it has been!

    Beginning the Next Chapter

A young girl twirling in a shiny, sequined skirt with her hair flying around, set in a warm, inviting room with wooden floors and leafy decor. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

I am 31 now. The best part of getting older is realizing that you actually know nothing. Such a humbling thing to acknowledge! Within this nothingness, I will begin my next decade. I hope I can sit here at 41 still admiring all of the greatness that has come.

Therefore, I refuse to focus on the “what-could-have-been.” I hope I am forever a glass-half-full kind of girl, no matter what comes next.

A boy and girl are hugging each other, both smiling. The boy is wearing a striped sweater in yellow and black, while the girl is wearing a white top and a sparkling skirt. They are seen in a cozy indoor setting with green plants in the background.

The Story Behind These River Forest Family Photos

About this session: I will forever love our chalk wall. While I probably can’t recreate this in my new rental, we have drawn and played a multitude of fun games on it. Specifically, I’ve been surprised by love notes from my children written there. I have also seen some incredible art skills displayed on this wall. I don’t want to take all the credit, but maybe that is a little of me rubbing off on them!

In reality, we know all children are great artists. I am only happy mine constantly choose to share their work with me so often.

Two children sitting on a wooden swing, with one boy wearing a striped sweater and a girl in a sparkling dress, both smiling and enjoying the moment, against a backdrop of a brick wall and a tree.

Location Scouting for River Forest Family Photos

Initially, I wanted to use the chalk wall as a backdrop for a few portraits then head out to find something different. I have driven past a specific green wall many times, always hopeful to have a session there at some point. Although some people struggle to see beauty in an “ugly” green wall, that is why there are people like me.

As a Chicago Family Photographer & mom I understand that the point of a session is not the background, but the love and fun represented in front of it. From a chalk wall to a green wall, I love how these images taken under a pathway in  River Forest with my family came out. My sister even helped me take the group ones! I didn’t trust a tripod in the middle of a street with winds and cars flowing by.

Ultimately, I hope we can make this happen every year until my kiddos finally say no. I hope you all have an amazing bunch of holidays!

WALK ALONG THE RIVER CHICAGO FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

Much of our adventures go undocumented nowadays since Im so busy with work and life, I have to make it a point to come back to this. My big boy will be 9 already at the end of the month. How on earth is that possible. It feels like just yesterday I was bringing him home. If you’re a new parent and or a new parent to be know that all the parent cliches are one thousand percent true! Every single one of them. I know I have a special chance to document their childhood and I should take more advantage of that. I can’t wait to have more freesom and explore the city of Chicago with these two more if we can’t venture out further. Life is changing but, it is also coming together at the same time.

Potempa Family Porch Session | Downers Grove Family Photographer

I recently visited this lovely family in the heart of Illinois. It had been quite some time since I last saw them. In fact, their baby boy was only one year old during our last session! Seeing him as a protective big brother was the highlight of our morning. As a Downers Grove family photographer, I am always struck by this town. It is beautiful and cinematic. Specifically, the historic architecture and tree-lined streets provide a soulful backdrop for unscripted moments.

Capturing Sibling Connection in Downers Grove

During our time together, I had the pleasure of meeting their sweet newest family member. The way her older brother watched over her was incredibly moving. As a Chicago Newborn Photographer I believe that Instead of forced, traditional poses, we focused on the raw, quiet moments of them getting to know each other on their own front porch. Because of this unposed approach, the gallery reflects the true energy of their home.

Additionally, front porch sessions offer a unique opportunity to capture a family’s “visual legacy” in a place that holds immense meaning. Whether it’s the porch where they spend summer evenings or the front steps where they welcome friends, these locations add a layer of soul to the storytelling. You can see more examples of my at-home documentary work here.

Planning Your Experience in the West Suburbs

If you are looking for a Downers Grove family photographer who values “honesty over poses,” there are a few things to consider for your session. First, the light in Downers Grove is particularly beautiful during the “Golden Hour.” However, for a porch session, we can often find soft, flattering light at various times of the day.

Ultimately, my goal is to document your family exactly as you are. From the loud laughter to the quiet glances, these are the moments you will want to remember for a lifetime. If you are ready to tell your story, I would love to chat. You can also explore more of my Chicago and West Suburbs portfolio for inspiration. For those looking to explore the area further, the Downers Grove Park District offers some of the most scenic natural trails in the region, perfect for a lifestyle session.

Leuber Family | Family Photography Oak Park

I recently spent a quiet morning with the Leuber family. We captured their story on their own front porch in Illinois. In fact, there is something so honest about a porch session. It allows every family member to feel entirely at ease. As an artist specializing in family photography Oak Park, I love the historic character of this neighborhood. The architectural details provide a perfect, cinematic backdrop for these unscripted moments.

Soulful Storytelling in the Frank Lloyd Wright District

Oak Park is famous for its history and artful homes. Specifically, the light filtered through the mature trees creates a soft, editorial feel for your gallery. During this session, we focused on the raw connection between the parents and their children. Instead of looking for “perfection,” we looked for the truth. Because we avoided stiff poses, the final images feel like a true visual legacy.

As an Oak Park + Chicago Family Photographer I believe front porch sessions bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor life. These spaces are where families welcome the world. Whether it’s a shared laugh on the steps or a quiet moment in the shade, these images hold deep meaning. You can view more of my Oak Park Wedding documentary work here.

Planning Your Family Photography Oak Park Experience

Choosing a location in this village is a collaborative process. First, we consider the aesthetic of your home and porch. However, we also look at the way the sun hits your specific street. Ultimately, my goal is to document your family exactly as you are today. These are the memories you will cherish for years to come.

Coming back to work with the Lunde family for this front porch session was such a joyful experience. In fact, being away from my clients during the recent months only solidified how much I love this job. As an Aurora IL family photographer, I felt so grateful to finally pick up my camera again. I loved documenting this sweet family in a way that felt safe yet incredibly honest.

The Beauty of an Aurora IL Family Photographer Session

As a Chicago Family Photographer I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I began offering these porch sessions. Being confined to a single outdoor space was a new challenge for my process. Specifically, I had to rethink my movement while maintaining a safe distance. Ultimately, I found that I could still capture those favorite wide-angle shots and tighter, cinematic crops. Because of these constraints, the focus stayed exactly where it should be: on the family’s connection.

Creating a Visual Legacy in Aurora

Art has a unique way of bringing strength and beauty to a difficult moment. While the memories of this specific era might feel heavy, capturing these smiles helps soften the edges of the story. Additionally, documenting your family at home creates a “visual legacy” that your children will cherish. Whether it is on your front steps or in your backyard, these places are part of your history.

If you are looking for an Aurora IL family photographer who values storytelling over stiff poses, I would love to connect. First, we will discuss the vibe of your home and the best light for your space. However, the most important part is simply showing up as you are. For those new to the area, the City of Aurora has some beautiful historic districts that serve as amazing backdrops for lifestyle photography.

Lincoln Park Baby Photography: The Beck Family and Dockatot

What an absolute joy was this family. The Becks have the sweetest backstory. Actually, one of the funniest things about them is that both parents share the exact same name! It made for such a lighthearted and memorable atmosphere during our session. We met to capture images as part of a Dockatot campaign. This project celebrated all kinds of different families, and the Becks were a perfect fit for this story and my style of Lincoln Park baby photography.

    Capturing Calm Moments in Chicago

Baby O was so calm and beautiful throughout the entire shoot. Specifically, you could see that she knew just how loved she was by her parents. Because I prioritize “honesty over poses,” we focused on the natural interactions between the three of them. We spent our time documenting the quiet snuggles and the gentle ways they cared for their new addition. Consequently, these baby photography images feel incredibly intimate and real.

The Beauty of Commercial Lifestyle Sessions

In a commercial project like this, the goal is to show the product in a real-world setting. Furthermore, by using a documentary approach, the Dockatot becomes a natural part of the family’s daily life. Choosing Lincoln Park baby photography for this campaign allowed us to use beautiful, soft light to highlight the product and the family’s bond simultaneously. It was an honor to be part of a project that celebrates such diverse and loving unions.

    Preserving Your Family’s Visual Legacy

Every session I shoot is about more than just pictures. In addition, it’s about preserving your family’s unique visual legacy. Also, these are the moments that you will look back on with so much fondness. Whether it’s a commercial campaign or a personal session, the heart of the work remains the same. By documenting these Lincoln Park baby photography moments, the Becks now have a beautiful record of Baby O’s early days.

Hyde Park Newborn Session | Ajani’s At-Home Story

Hyde Park Newborn Session: Strong Like Thunder

“Strong like thunder he came.” While I wasn’t able to be present during Ajani’s birth, I heard all about the birth plan his mother carefully crafted for him. Actually, she had all the confidence it took to educate herself and have the exact birth she always wanted: at home, surrounded by light and love. She is definitely full of tenacity, and that energy was palpable throughout our Hyde Park newborn session.

    Creating Art in Small Spaces

The family was in the midst of a move during our shoot. This meant we had to be creative with our surroundings. Specifically, we chose a sweet spot with just two walls and a window. Because I believe “honesty over poses” is the heartbeat of photography, we didn’t need a grand backdrop. Consequently, these images prove a perfect house isn’t required for a Hyde Park newborn session. You just need beautiful light and a connection to your story.

The Beauty of At-Home Documentary Sessions

If you’re thinking an at-home session isn’t for you because of clutter or limited space, I’m here to prove otherwise. Furthermore, by focusing on the intimate details—the way a baby is held or the light hitting a small corner—we create something timeless. This Hyde Park newborn session was about Ajani’s presence and the love his parents have for him. It was a reminder that home isn’t about the furniture; it’s about the people inside.

    Documenting Your Family’s Visual Legacy

As a Chicago Newborn Photographer Every session I shoot is about preserving your family’s unique visual legacy. In addition, these are the moments you will look back on twenty years from now. Also, the small details from Ajani’s first days will become treasures as he grows. Whether it’s a home birth story or a quiet afternoon in a new apartment, the focus remains on the raw and real.

Chicago Self Portrait Artist | Tips for Movement in Photos

Hey guys! Today I am sharing some images from this spring. I took a little time to work as a Chicago self portrait artist, photographing myself and my kiddos enjoying one of our favorite things: our little outdoor swing. My son suggested the swing, and since then, I’ve added a rebozo swing as well.

What I wanted to achieve in these images was intentional movement. Fluidity doesn’t always come naturally in self-portraits because you are busy setting up the shot. Sometimes, anticipating the movement makes it feel forced. I knew I had to encourage the fun to keep us from looking stiff. If you’ve seen my recent Oak Park birth photography post, you know how much I value documenting raw, unposed energy.

Capturing Movement as a Chicago Self Portrait Artist

If you want more movement and fluidity in your own images, here are my top three tips:

    1. Pick an easy and fun activity. Jump in there with the kids! If you use a timer like I do, you only have 10 seconds to set up the shot. While a remote might be easier, I always seem to lose them. Try doing the movement once or twice before you press the shutter to get into the flow. This creates a much more documentary lifestyle feel.
    2. Say no to a shallow depth of field. Focus is much easier to maintain with movement at f/5.6 or even f/11. Seriously, try it! This allows you to capture yourself and your environment completely without losing sharpness. As a Chicago self portrait artist, I find that the environment tells just as much of the story as the subject.
    3. Let go of perfection. This is my number one tip. When you are learning, your “failures” are actually your best teachers. If your mistakes push you to create more, it means being in your photographs is truly important to you. Don’t worry about every hair being in place; focus on the feeling.
