Leuber Family | Family Photography Oak Park

I recently spent a quiet morning with the Leuber family. We captured their story on their own front porch in Illinois. In fact, there is something so honest about a porch session. It allows every family member to feel entirely at ease. As an artist specializing in family photography Oak Park, I love the historic character of this neighborhood. The architectural details provide a perfect, cinematic backdrop for these unscripted moments.

Soulful Storytelling in the Frank Lloyd Wright District

Oak Park is famous for its history and artful homes. Specifically, the light filtered through the mature trees creates a soft, editorial feel for your gallery. During this session, we focused on the raw connection between the parents and their children. Instead of looking for “perfection,” we looked for the truth. Because we avoided stiff poses, the final images feel like a true visual legacy.

As an Oak Park + Chicago Family Photographer I believe front porch sessions bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor life. These spaces are where families welcome the world. Whether it’s a shared laugh on the steps or a quiet moment in the shade, these images hold deep meaning. You can view more of my Oak Park Wedding documentary work here.

Planning Your Family Photography Oak Park Experience

Choosing a location in this village is a collaborative process. First, we consider the aesthetic of your home and porch. However, we also look at the way the sun hits your specific street. Ultimately, my goal is to document your family exactly as you are today. These are the memories you will cherish for years to come.

If you are ready to book a session that prioritizes “honesty over poses,” I would love to chat. You can explore my full family portfolio for more inspiration. Coming back to work with the Lunde family for this front porch session was such a joyful experience. In fact, being away from my clients during the recent months only solidified how much I love this job. As an Aurora IL family photographer, I felt so grateful to finally pick up my camera again. I loved documenting this sweet family in a way that felt safe yet incredibly honest.

The Beauty of an Aurora IL Family Photographer Session

As a Chicago Family Photographer I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I began offering these porch sessions. Being confined to a single outdoor space was a new challenge for my process. Specifically, I had to rethink my movement while maintaining a safe distance. Ultimately, I found that I could still capture those favorite wide-angle shots and tighter, cinematic crops. Because of these constraints, the focus stayed exactly where it should be: on the family’s connection.

Creating a Visual Legacy in Aurora

Art has a unique way of bringing strength and beauty to a difficult moment. While the memories of this specific era might feel heavy, capturing these smiles helps soften the edges of the story. Additionally, documenting your family at home creates a “visual legacy” that your children will cherish. Whether it is on your front steps or in your backyard, these places are part of your history.

If you are looking for an Aurora IL family photographer who values storytelling over stiff poses, I would love to connect. First, we will discuss the vibe of your home and the best light for your space. However, the most important part is simply showing up as you are. You can explore more of my at-home documentary sessions here or check out my family portfolio for more inspiration. For those new to the area, the City of Aurora has some beautiful historic districts that serve as amazing backdrops for lifestyle photography.

    A Sweet Goodbye to Summer

Yesterday felt like a sweet goodbye to summer. As a documentary storyteller in Chicago, I felt an overwhelming need to capture these last moments for my own kids. Specifically, I wanted to freeze the feeling of this season before the school year shifted our rhythm entirely. I turned on the sprinkler for just fifteen minutes and simply documented their joy. But let’s be honest, there were also plenty of moments of them fighting for the best spot near the water.

Consequently, this transition feels heavier than most. After this summer, I no longer have a kid at home to keep me busy during the day. There is so much change ahead for our family. Our schedules are getting full, and so are the backpacks.

Next week is the first day of school for my littlest as she starts Pre-K. I know she’s going to love it; she is truly one of the most extroverted kids I know. Ultimately, I look forward to hearing all of her new stories, even though change is never easy. Nonetheless, we just have to keep moving forward.

    The Heart of My Storytelling

Because I don’t have many photos from my own childhood, I am deeply intentional about preserving these visual legacies for my kids—and for yours. Whether we are playing in a sprinkler in Forest Park or exploring a park in Oak Park, my goal as a documentary storyteller in Chicago is to capture the “ordinary” days that are actually extraordinary.

Ready to document your own family’s magic? If you’re looking for a soulful, unposed experience, explore my work as an Oak Park family photographer or view my latest Chicago family photography sessions. Let’s tell your story, exactly as it is.

Planning a Session with a Documentary Storyteller in Chicago

Specifically, many parents ask me how to prepare for an unposed session. Ultimately, the best advice I can give is to lean into the chaos. Whether it’s a sprinkler fight in the backyard or a messy breakfast at the kitchen table, these are the moments that truly tell your story. Consequently, as a documentary storyteller in Chicago, I am not looking for perfection; I am looking for the connection that makes your family unique.

The Calm After the Storm: Baby A’s First Days

It feels like this was the calm after the storm. As an Elgin newborn photographer, I was honored to capture this little family just two weeks after they welcomed their newest addition at home. In reality, this is probably the beginning of a whole new storm—a beautiful, chaotic, and soul-stretching one at that.

Angela, however, seems fully equipped to deal with the toughest of storms. Specifically, after seeing the way she so calmly gave birth and the way she treats her oldest child, I know for sure she is ready for this sweet baby girl. This whole family is just inspiring. They welcomed me into their home with such warmth that I felt incredibly comfortable from the moment I walked in. Ultimately, their connection made my job feel effortless. I love being a Chicago Newborn Photographer because of sessions like this.

Choosing an Elgin Newborn Photographer for Your At-Home Story

Because the first few weeks with a newborn are such a blur of feedings and nap schedules, I believe the best place for a session is right where life happens. Whether we are documenting quiet cuddles in the nursery or the exuberant love of a big sibling, an at-home session preserves the “real” version of your life. Consequently, you don’t need fancy props or stiff poses to tell a powerful story.

All we need is your family’s unique connection and a bit of window light. As a result, these images become a visual legacy that feels both honest and timeless. Sometimes we get lucky like that—finding a family whose energy perfectly matches the lens. I wish them all the best as they start their new journey as a family of four.

Why I Love Being a Storyteller in the Fox Valley

Working as an Elgin newborn photographer allows me to see the quiet magic in the ordinary. I am not just looking for a “perfect” portrait; I am looking for the way a father looks at his daughter or the way a mother breathes in the scent of her newborn’s head. Basically, these are the moments that deserve to be remembered forever.

A Beautiful Night for a Home Birth in Chicago

Oh, what a privilege it was to be present as a home birth storyteller in Chicago during this amazing overnight labor. This was the first time I joined a family through the quiet hours of the night, and Angela’s strength was truly awe-inspiring. She was one of those incredibly peaceful birthers; she totally blew me away with the way she rocked this birth.

Specifically, to say it was eventful and beautiful would be an understatement. There was chaos and so much uncertainty when it came to getting the water ready for the birth. But then, that sweet baby girl emerged and nothing else mattered. Consequently, the mood shifted from intense focus to pure joy in an instant.

The Magic of Documentary Birth Stories

The big sister was woken up right before her baby sister made her debut. Even though Angela was working through a contraction at that moment, the smile on her face was contagious. I cannot say enough how much she amazed me. Although she had incredible support, her partner really takes the cake—he was helpful and awesome in every way.

Ultimately, I truly fell in love with their family dynamic. Because I value preserving these visual legacies, being a home birth storyteller in Chicago is about more than just the delivery; it’s about the quiet support and the raw emotion in between.

From Online Connection to North Carolina: A Travel Story

I met Lydia online years ago in a private group for mothers, and ultimately, we were meant to be real-life friends. She is one of those rare souls who can kindly tell you exactly how you’re wrong without ever making you feel bad for it. When she invited me to her new home in North Carolina to document her family, I didn’t hesitate. Working as a traveling family photographer in Chicago means I often get the chance to follow stories wherever they lead.

Specifically, capturing this slice of their love in a brand-new setting was such an honor. Their family is authentically beautiful, and that baby! Basically, she gave me the most intense baby fever I’ve had in years. I loved getting to see their dynamic in person after years of digital friendship.

The Heart of a Traveling Family Photographer from Chicago

Because I prioritize unscripted, documentary moments, I find that traveling to a client’s home—regardless of the zip code—creates the most honest results. Whether I am documenting a morning in Oak Park or a weekend in North Carolina, my goal is the same: to preserve your visual legacy. Consequently, the location becomes a character in your story, reflecting a specific chapter of your life.

Ultimately, this trip reminded me why I love my job. I left North Carolina feeling inspired and full of gratitude for the way photography turns “internet friends” into lifelong “IRL friends.” We definitely need to plan a girls’ trip soon!

Choosing an Experienced Geneva IL Newborn Photographer

Oh my my, what a great privilege it is to now capture this beautiful family as they welcome their second baby. I started capturing this family when Big brother was in the belly, and now he’s a big, busy 1-year-old. As a Geneva IL newborn photographer, I love being invited back to document these growing stories.

Baby Harlow wasn’t as calm as her big brother was at this age; however, she is just as cute. Time certainly does not feel real. It’s only reflected in the chubby faces staring back at us. Specifically, I look forward to seeing this little beauty grow all year long.

The Magic of At-Home Newborn Photography

Because the first few weeks with a new baby are so fleeting, I find that a documentary approach is the best way to preserve these memories. Whether we are capturing quiet feedings or the chaotic energy of a toddler meeting his sister, my goal is to document your honest life. Consequently, you don’t need a perfectly clean house or a studio backdrop; you just need your family’s connection.

Ultimately, being a Geneva IL newborn photographer means I get to witness these sacred early days in the comfort of your own home. Basically, these sessions are about more than just a pretty picture; they are about freezing a feeling before it shifts.

As a Chicago Newborn photographer this was a session to remember.

Tips from a Geneva IL Newborn Photographer

Specifically, many parents worry about their toddler’s energy during an at-home session. Ultimately, as a Geneva IL newborn photographer, I find that the “chaos” of a one-year-old meeting their sibling is exactly what makes the story real. Consequently, my best advice is to let them be busy. Whether they are running through the hallway or peaking into the bassinet, those unscripted moments are the ones you will want to remember.

Traveling Family Photographer Chicago | Teaching & Mentoring

I taught for the first time! I photographed a real family in their actual home in front of over 20 other photographers. To say I felt nervous is an understatement. As a traveling family photographer from Chicago, I usually work in intimate settings. However, having a crowd of peers watching my every move added a new level of pressure. I even gave the mama, Cate, the wrong date!

Specifically, this mistake could have caused a catastrophe. Cate had cleaners over to prepare for the next day. Despite my error, she handled the situation with incredible grace. Ultimately, mistakes happen in life. I pride myself on rolling with the punches. As fate would have it, my snafu worked out perfectly. Cate’s grandfather fell ill that weekend. By shooting early, she gained the freedom to be with her family during a tough time. I feel beyond grateful for the time they gave us.

The Heart of a Traveling Family Photographer from Chicago

During this session, I kept calling my work “hybrid”—a mix of documentary and lifestyle. However, I have since officially added the title of Rhythmic Storytelling to my work. Because I need my images to make sense to me, I look for the natural cadence of a family’s love. Whether I am teaching a workshop or working as a traveling family photographer from Chicago, that rhythm is what I’m sticking to.

Consequently, even when the light is “all over the place” and the ISO is set to 5000, the soul of the session remains intact. It was chaos, and I probably forgot a million things I wanted to say as a teacher, but it was an enlightening experience. They were beautiful, and their love could be felt in every corner of their home. Such a beautiful example about what it means to be a Chicago Family photographer who travels.

    Mentoring and Traveling for Storytelling

Basically, choosing to have your session at home allows for a level of honesty that a studio simply cannot replicate. As a result, the images become a visual legacy of your actual daily life. If you are looking for a traveling family photographer from Chicago to capture your family’s unique rhythm—or if you are a photographer looking for mentoring and education—I would love to chat.

Darien IL Family Photographer | Sunset at Waterfall Glen

There is something so magical about the light in Darien during the late summer. As a Darien IL family photographer, I find myself drawn back to Waterfall Glen time and time again. While many people flock to the falls, I prefer the quiet, unscripted moments we find in the surrounding prairies.

Specifically, the Potempa family handled our early start with such grace. Ultimately, the success of a session depends on the family’s willingness to be present and playful. Because they trusted my vision, we were able to pivot from the crowded waterfall area to a secluded “little patch of grass.” Consequently, we captured the kind of honest, gummy-smiled joy that only happens when a baby feels completely at ease.

Flexibility with a Darien IL Family Photographer

I originally planned to incorporate the actual falls at Waterfall Glen into our session. However, we changed our plans last minute and pivoted to a little patch of grass instead. As a Darien IL family photographer, I find that flexibility often leads to the most authentic results. Ultimately, the specific spot matters less than the connection between the family members.

Because I value documentary storytelling, I love how these images turned out. Mr. William remained all smiles throughout the morning! Whether we are near the water or in a simple clearing, the “rhythm” of the family always shines through.

Preserving Your Visual Legacy in the Western Suburbs

Basically, choosing a local Darien IL family photographer allows you to utilize the beautiful, hidden gems in the DuPage County area. As a result, your gallery feels personal and connected to the landscapes where you spend your weekends. If you want to document your family’s visual legacy with a session that feels easy and honest, I would love to chat.

Ultimately, these early years move so fast. Specifically, I specialize in capturing these fleeting moments of childhood magic before they shift into the next phase. If you are looking for more local resources, the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve website is a great place to plan your next family hike. You can also see more of my chicago family photographer portfolio to see how I document stories across the suburbs.
