The Beauty of Northwest Indiana Newborn Photography

There is a special kind of magic in the quiet moments of a new beginning, which is why I love traveling for Northwest Indiana newborn photography. While I often work as a Chicago photographer, returning to this sweet family’s home in NWI felt like a beautiful full circle. I previously had the honor of documenting their home births, and seeing their family grow is a true gift.

Bringing a new baby home is a whirlwind of emotions, but at-home newborn lifestyle photography in Chicago offers a way to slow down and savor the magic. Recently, I had the joy of visiting a sweet family to document their newest addition. Since I previously photographed their home births, returning to capture their growing family felt like a beautiful full circle.

Why Choose At-Home Newborn Lifestyle Photography?

Many parents worry about the logistics of a photo session with a toddler and a newborn. However, at-home newborn lifestyle photography in Chicago is designed to be effortless. Because we are in your natural environment, your children feel safe and relaxed. Consequently, the images we capture are honest, tender, and reflective of your real life.

Documenting the Journey from Birth to Home

Watching big brother step into his new role was a highlight of this session. He was incredibly proud and curious about his baby sister. By following his lead rather than forcing poses, we captured the genuine bond forming between them. Furthermore, these sessions allow us to include the tiny details of the nursery and the quiet corners of your home that hold so much meaning.

Planning Your Northwest Indiana Newborn Session

If you are looking for a photographer who values storytelling, I would love to chat. In addition to individual sessions, I offer a “Storytelling Bundle” for families who want to document the transition from pregnancy to those first weeks at home.

Documenting This Family’s Journey from Birth to Newborn

For families who want their entire journey documented, I offer a package that includes maternity, birth, and newborn sessions. It allows me to tell the complete story from the anticipation of pregnancy to the powerful moments of birth, and then the sweet calm of life with a newborn. Riverside IL Newborn Photographer | Authentic home stories

As a Riverside IL newborn photographer, my goal is to capture the quiet reality of your first weeks at home. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a lovely family in the suburbs. They were welcoming their second baby boy into the fold. Because I had photographed this family before,Look at their sweet maternity session here it felt like catching up with old friends.

The Beauty of Riverside IL Newborn Photography

There is something so special about returning to a home for a second baby. I love seeing how the family dynamic has shifted. This session was particularly sweet. Consequently, we spent much of the morning following the big brother’s lead. We captured real moments of connection rather than forced poses. Furthermore, the natural light in their home was absolutely stunning for these portraits.

    Why Choose an In-Home Session?

Many parents feel pressure to have a “perfect” house for photos. However, you do not need a showroom to have a successful session. Your home is the heart of your story. Additionally, staying in your own space makes the experience much easier for toddlers. They can play with their own toys. They can also take breaks whenever they need. As a result, the images feel much more authentic and relaxed.

Memories with a Riverside IL Newborn Photographer

As a Riverside IL newborn photographer, I focus on the tiny details. These moments pass by so quickly. I want you to remember the way your baby’s hair curls. Similarly, I want to capture the tiny scale of their hands in yours. Becausethese days are often a blur, a visual record is a gift. Therefore, these images become the heirlooms that your children will look back on with love.

    Book Your Riverside IL Session

If you need a Riverside IL newborn photographer, I would love to connect. I offer storytelling bundles for your entire journey. These cover pregnancy through the first year. In addition, I focus on creating a stress-free environment for every client. Let’s work together to preserve your family’s most meaningful moments.

A Local Connection in the Oak Park Arts District

As an Oak Park newborn photographer, my goal is to document your family’s unique journey right here in our vibrant community. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a heartwarming in-home session for a wonderful local family. Because we were in their natural environment, every moment felt honest, relaxed, and uniquely “Oak Park.”

My clients live near one of my current favorite places to walk: the Oak Park Arts District. That little street near their house features some of my favorite local shops. This includes the recently opened Publican Quality Bread. You would not believe how delicious it smells when you walk by!

Their residence is truly in the heart of Oak Park. I’ll admit I’m a bit jealous of the location because it is a dream come true. While no place is perfect, Oak Park feels like the ideal setting to raise babies. Their home appears to be a Prairie-style design, which meshes perfectly with the local aesthetic. Consequently, the house provided a flawless backdrop for these intimate moments.

The Value of a Belly to Baby Bundle

My connection with this family actually began months ago. First, we met for a maternity session at the historic Pleasant Home. Additionally, I had the honor of photographing their baby boy’s birth story. Returning to their home as their Oak Park newborn photographer felt like reuniting with old friends.

This session was part of my “Belly to Baby” bundle. Essentially, this package offers a seamless story of your child’s arrival. It begins with the beautiful anticipation of pregnancy. Then, it continues through those first chaotic and sweet weeks of life. Moreover, having the same photographer for each milestone creates a level of comfort that shines through in the final images.

Why Choose an Oak Park Newborn Photographer?

Choosing a local Oak Park newborn photographer means working with someone who understands the “vibe” of our village. I know the local landmarks, the best times for natural light in historic homes, and the pace of life in our suburbs.

In-home lifestyle photography is specifically designed for comfort. You don’t have to pack a diaper bag or worry about traffic on Harlem Avenue. Instead, I come to you. We can incorporate your favorite corners of your home, your family pets, and even your favorite local treats. This relaxed approach allows us to document those fleeting early moments naturally.

Preparing Your Home for a Lifestyle Session

Many parents worry that their home isn’t “photo-ready.” However, as an Oak Park newborn photographer, I promise that your home is exactly where the magic happens. Here are a few tips to prepare:

Warm it Up: Newborns love a warm environment. Turning up the heat slightly helps keep them sleepy and content during the shoot..

Focus on Light: Open all the blinds and curtains in the main living areas and the nursery.

Clear the Clutter: You don’t need a deep clean. Just move any bright plastic toys or tissue boxes out of the main frame.

Capturing Sibling Connections and New Joy

The older siblings in this session lovingly welcomed their new baby brother. Watching their curiosity and gentle touches was truly a highlight of the day. Furthermore, my approach emphasizes real moments over stiff poses. I focus on the connection within your own home because that is where your children feel most at ease.

Whether it is a toddler’s curiosity about a new tiny hand or a quiet moment of a big sister resting on the couch, these are the memories that matter most. As an Oak Park newborn photographer, I believe these sibling bonds are the foundation of your family’s evolving story.

    The Magic of Documentary Details

Beyond the big family portraits, I look for the tiny details that often go overlooked in the blur of the newborn phase. I focus on the small toes, the wisps of hair, and the way a father looks at his new son with a mixture of awe and exhaustion. These close-up shots serve as a reminder of just how small they once were.

My aim is to offer timeless keepsakes that tell your local story. Because I value storytelling, I express your unique essence in every frame. I want you to look back at these photos and remember exactly how your home felt, the way the light hit the floorboards, and the overwhelming love of those first few weeks.

    Understanding Lifestyle vs. Documentary Photography

As an Oak Park newborn photographer, I often get asked what the difference is between lifestyle and documentary photography. Essentially, lifestyle photography (like this session) involves a small amount of “direction.” I might ask you to sit near a window or cuddle on the bed, but the emotions and interactions are all yours.

Documentary photography, on the other hand, is entirely unscripted. It captures the raw, unfiltered reality of life with a newborn—the diaper changes, the rocking to sleep, and the quiet chaos of a Prairie-style home in the morning. Both styles aim to preserve your family’s unique essence without the stiff, artificial poses of a traditional studio. Choosing the right Oak Park newborn photographer means finding someone whose artistic vision aligns with how you want to remember these fleeting days.

What to Wear for Your Oak Park Photo Session

When planning your wardrobe for a session with an Oak Park newborn photographer, comfort is key. Since we are in your home, I always suggest:

    • Neutral Palettes: Soft creams, greys, and earth tones mesh beautifully with the wooden trim often found in Oak Park homes.
    • Textures Over Patterns: Think knits, linen, and denim. These add depth to your photos without being distracting.
    • Coordinate, Don’t Match: Avoid everyone wearing the exact same color. Instead, pick a color story and let everyone have their own unique look within that range.
    • Bare Feet: Since we are often on beds or couches, bare feet feel more natural and cozy for an in-home lifestyle setting.

Planning Your Oak Park Newborn Experience

If you are currently expecting, now is the time to reach out. Most families book their Oak Park newborn photographer during their second trimester. This ensures we have plenty of time to plan your maternity session and reserve space around your due date.

Whether you want to document a home birth, a hospital arrival, or a quiet morning in your nursery, I am here to tell that story. Let’s capture the magic of your family in the place you love most.

I can’t believe we’re here, so close to December and just about to celebrate Thanksgiving. As I prepare for our upcoming River Forest family photos, I’ve been reflecting on how things are looking different in the future for us. Perhaps this is too heavy and personal for my photography page, or perhaps it’s just what my clients need from me.

A family portrait featuring a smiling father with two children, one boy and one girl, in a cozy indoor setting with bookshelves and greenery in the background. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

To see me is to go a little deeper into who I am. I want you to see the person behind the lens. Specifically, I capture the beauty of family because it is my passion. My own family is also my passion. If I am to live my one wild and precious life the way I want, then I guess I’ll have to be judged.

I am so grateful for my soon-to-be ex-husband who agreed to do this for me. In actuality, I know he knows it’s for them. While we may not have always modeled an incredible marriage, we will ensure they see unconditional love and friendship moving forward.

Black and white image of three children posing together with smiles, one boy in a striped sweater, a girl in a white top, and another child partially hidden behind them, with a bookshelf in the background. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

As I climbed out of the tub and shook my hair dry, I told myself: Maybe in a different life.

    Isn’t that interesting?

As if I had more than one.

    -Untamed

Reflecting on a Decade of Motherhood

My twenties started with having a baby boy and launching my business. During that time, I absorbed everything I could. In the last decade, I have also launched photographer communities and workshops across the United States. I taught others to find their voice and even dabbled in having my own magazine.

However, all of that would mean nothing without them. I was 21 when my son was born, shy of 22 by mere days. What an incredible journey it has been!

    Beginning the Next Chapter

A young girl twirling in a shiny, sequined skirt with her hair flying around, set in a warm, inviting room with wooden floors and leafy decor. River Forest family photos at home with chalk wall

I am 31 now. The best part of getting older is realizing that you actually know nothing. Such a humbling thing to acknowledge! Within this nothingness, I will begin my next decade. I hope I can sit here at 41 still admiring all of the greatness that has come.

Therefore, I refuse to focus on the “what-could-have-been.” I hope I am forever a glass-half-full kind of girl, no matter what comes next.

A boy and girl are hugging each other, both smiling. The boy is wearing a striped sweater in yellow and black, while the girl is wearing a white top and a sparkling skirt. They are seen in a cozy indoor setting with green plants in the background.

The Story Behind These River Forest Family Photos

About this session: I will forever love our chalk wall. While I probably can’t recreate this in my new rental, we have drawn and played a multitude of fun games on it. Specifically, I’ve been surprised by love notes from my children written there. I have also seen some incredible art skills displayed on this wall. I don’t want to take all the credit, but maybe that is a little of me rubbing off on them!

In reality, we know all children are great artists. I am only happy mine constantly choose to share their work with me so often.

Two children sitting on a wooden swing, with one boy wearing a striped sweater and a girl in a sparkling dress, both smiling and enjoying the moment, against a backdrop of a brick wall and a tree.

Location Scouting for River Forest Family Photos

Initially, I wanted to use the chalk wall as a backdrop for a few portraits then head out to find something different. I have driven past a specific green wall many times, always hopeful to have a session there at some point. Although some people struggle to see beauty in an “ugly” green wall, that is why there are people like me.

As a Chicago Family Photographer & mom I understand that the point of a session is not the background, but the love and fun represented in front of it. From a chalk wall to a green wall, I love how these images taken under a pathway in  River Forest with my family came out. My sister even helped me take the group ones! I didn’t trust a tripod in the middle of a street with winds and cars flowing by.

Ultimately, I hope we can make this happen every year until my kiddos finally say no. I hope you all have an amazing bunch of holidays!

    The Dryfhout Family Session

The absolute most kind of people also happen to be the most beautiful. Sometimes I travel a bit outside of my area to lovely places like for Homer Glen Family Photos. We did the math during their session and I have been photographing their beautiful family since before little miss E was even alive. How insanely special is that?

I’ve seen two of their stunning homes and have watched the kids go through various changes. Now they’ve added an adorable pup! I always say that Matt won the wife lottery, but you can see from these images that they are all so beyond lucky to have each other. I cannot stress enough how welcoming and lovely they are. Getting to catch up and see the brand-new adventures they’ve made is so much fun.

The Magic of Homer Glen Family Photos

Miss Z + E make me jealous for my own little Zoe; I know she wishes she had a sister. I myself had two, but they came almost a decade after me. It is also crazy to see just how tall Mr. A got, close to being over six feet. He will absolutely surpass his dad soon!

I have said it before and I’ll say it again: there is no such thing as a bad location. We shot these Homer Glen family photos in their front yard, around their house, and in the back. There is always some kind of magic everywhere.

Planning Your Homer Glen Family Photos at Home

Many families worry about finding a perfect park. However, this session proves that your own home can be the most meaningful backdrop. Specifically, for the Dryfhout family, we utilized the spaces where their memories are actually made.

As a Chicago family photographer if you are planning Homer Glen family photos, consider an at-home lifestyle session. It allows everyone to feel completely comfortable. Furthermore, I always enjoy finding new pockets of light in this area. You can find more information about local nature spots through the Village of Homer Glen website.
