    There’s something about a cold Chicago morning when the sun actually shows up. Light pours through floor-to-ceiling condo windows, there’s no agenda, and nowhere to be. That’s exactly what we had for this Streeterville newborn session and honestly, as a Chicago newborn photographer, I’m still thinking about it. That kind of light makes everything feel softer, which is exactly what a brand new family deserves.

    Their First Baby, Their First Days

    This was their first, and everything that comes with that showed up right there in the room. Mom held him so carefully. Dad’s hand found her back at the crib without even thinking about it. Those aren’t posed moments they just happen naturally, and my job is to stay quiet enough to catch them.

    Baby was wide-eyed and alert for most of our time together. Those blue eyes, that little red hair peeking out from his white knit bonnet I could have photographed his face for hours. Meanwhile, mom was radiant in the most beautiful navy dress, glowing against all that creamy window light. She was exhausted and stunning and so present. I truly hope she sees herself the way I saw her through my lens.

    Welcoming a new baby is a whirlwind. You are likely dealing with sleepless nights and tiny miracles. As a Chicago at home newborn photographer, I believe the best way to document this season is in your own space. Specifically, I love capturing families where they feel most comfortable.

    A lifestyle session is very different from a studio visit. First, we move at a relaxed and unhurried pace. We do not worry about perfect poses. Instead, we focus on real connection. For example, I look for the way your baby curls into your chest. Similarly, I love to capture how your family dog sniffs the newest member of the pack.     For this family specifically, it was the second time we worked together. We shot their maternity session earlier this year. I knew their at home newborn session would be effortless and as beautiful as their maternity session.

      At-Home Newborn Photography in Wilmette, IL

    This session as a Wilmette At-Home Newborn Session, was incredibly special. On a beautiful sunny morning, I documented a new family. They were welcoming their little one into the world. The light poured softly through the windows. It wrapped the family in warmth and gave us a perfect setting. Because of this, we captured natural and timeless photographs.

    As soon as I arrived, their gorgeous Samoyed greeted me. This fluffy white dog clearly wanted to be part of the experience. Although I tried to stay focused on my camera, I couldn’t help but smile at such a sweet companion. Pets often play a big role in family life. Therefore, I love when they naturally become part of at-home sessions.

    One of my favorite things about newborn photography is the light. Specifically, I love how it changes the mood of each image. That morning, the light was absolutely perfect. It was golden and soft. Furthermore, it highlighted every detail of the family’s connection. Inside their home, they were surrounded by familiar spaces. Consequently, they could relax and simply enjoy these fleeting moments.

She joined the session late after I got all of the newborn images I love to achieve. Furthermore, Little Miss Reese had grown so much since I last saw her.     Additionally, an outdoor session offers a unique backdrop. Lakeview was so many beautiful outdoor places. Doing this Lakeview Chicago newborn photography session near the Diversey Natural area was so easy to reach and perfect for working with families. Because we were in a forest setting, the light was very soft and natural. Instead of a studio, the family chose the beauty of nature. Overall, the session was a big success. If you are looking for something different, an outdoor shoot is a wonderful option. Therefore, I always encourage families to consider the local parks.

    Moreover, I find that the natural environment helps older children relax. Since they have room to run, they don’t feel pressured. As a result, we get more candid and joyful images. Whether it is a summer morning or a golden hour evening, the results are stunning. Meanwhile, we made sure to keep the baby comfortable and safe.
