Documentary Storyteller in Chicago | Childhood magic

    A Sweet Goodbye to Summer

Yesterday felt like a sweet goodbye to summer. As a documentary storyteller in Chicago, I felt an overwhelming need to capture these last moments for my own kids. Specifically, I wanted to freeze the feeling of this season before the school year shifted our rhythm entirely. I turned on the sprinkler for just fifteen minutes and simply documented their joy. But let’s be honest, there were also plenty of moments of them fighting for the best spot near the water.

Consequently, this transition feels heavier than most. After this summer, I no longer have a kid at home to keep me busy during the day. There is so much change ahead for our family. Our schedules are getting full, and so are the backpacks.

Next week is the first day of school for my littlest as she starts Pre-K. I know she’s going to love it; she is truly one of the most extroverted kids I know. Ultimately, I look forward to hearing all of her new stories, even though change is never easy. Nonetheless, we just have to keep moving forward.

    The Heart of My Storytelling

Because I don’t have many photos from my own childhood, I am deeply intentional about preserving these visual legacies for my kids—and for yours. Whether we are playing in a sprinkler in Forest Park or exploring a park in Oak Park, my goal as a documentary storyteller in Chicago is to capture the “ordinary” days that are actually extraordinary.

Ready to document your own family’s magic? If you’re looking for a soulful, unposed experience, explore my work as an Oak Park family photographer or view my latest Chicago family photography sessions. Let’s tell your story, exactly as it is.

Planning a Session with a Documentary Storyteller in Chicago

Specifically, many parents ask me how to prepare for an unposed session. Ultimately, the best advice I can give is to lean into the chaos. Whether it’s a sprinkler fight in the backyard or a messy breakfast at the kitchen table, these are the moments that truly tell your story. Consequently, as a documentary storyteller in Chicago, I am not looking for perfection; I am looking for the connection that makes your family unique.

Candid Childhood Photography Chicago | A Spring Story

We are so over winter. I know how whiny that sounds, but I’m ready for the light to change. I’ve found myself looking back at old images of warmth and sunshine. I am currently sharing these favorites because I am so deeply drawn to candid childhood photography Chicago. It isn’t just about a pretty picture. It is about freezing a season of life that disappears too fast.

I especially miss that cute little dress. It felt like we wore it every single day two years ago. Looking at these reminds me why I love my job. These “throwback” moments are the ones that carry the most weight as the years pass.

The Magic of Candid Childhood Photography Chicago

I am currently in the midst of some “inner feeling dealings.” There is something about the transition from winter to spring that I find hard to navigate. Yet, I am always so grateful for these two. They keep me grounded even when the days feel long.

Motherhood is a wild gig. It somehow keeps getting tougher, but it also keeps getting more beautiful. These unposed moments of my own children are my most prized possessions. If you are looking for Chicago Family Photographer  that capture the heart of your home, you are in the right place.

Hanover Park Family Photographer | The Lunde Family Session

Oh, the heart of this family. Looking back at these images, I am struck by the pure joy. As a Hanover Park family photographer, it is incredible to see these sweet boys grow. I have been behind the camera for so many of their milestones. The love and connection they share is truly beautiful to witness. I was lucky enough to witness Mr. G’s entrance into this world. Now, we celebrated his first birthday with a full family session.

One of my favorite things about the Lundes is their attitude. They have an incredible spirit for adventuring. I love capturing the beauty of childhood in this way. It feels honest and wild. I hope Kayla has ten more babies! I would love to hang out with them every single year. Documenting their growth in complete amazement is such a gift.

Choosing a Hanover Park Family Photographer for Your Milestones

When you look for a Hanover Park family photographer, you want someone who sees the real stuff. You want the messy hair and the loud laughs. During this session, we let the boys be themselves. We explored the local landscape and let the moments unfold naturally. This is the core of lifestyle photography. It isn’t about looking at the camera and saying cheese. It is about how you feel when you are together.

Planning Your Next West Suburbs Session

If you are planning a session in the area, I have a tip. Check out the Hanover Park Park District for some great outdoor inspiration. Local parks offer a wonderful backdrop for these candid moments.

Are you ready to document your family’s story? Whether it is a first birthday or just a Saturday afternoon, I am here for it. If you need a Chicago family photographer, let’s chat. I would love to tell your story through my lens.

O’Hare Documentary Family Photographer | Storytelling

This O’Hare documentary family photographer session is deeply personal. After 15 years apart, watching my mom reunite with her mother was a surreal, soulful experience that only candid, documentary photography could truly capture at our local airport.

O’Hare Documentary Family Photographer: The Art of the Reunion

It is hard to find the right words for a moment like this. I have seen my mom cry many times after phone calls. Each time, she wished she could see her mother again. It has been over 15 years. Consequently, the moment she told me she would see her mom felt surreal. You eventually accept the reality that you may never see that person again when you choose to immigrate to the USA. This is my family’s story, but it is also a story shared by many.

The Role of an O’Hare Documentary Family Photographer

They brought balloons for their mother a little of whimsy O'Hare documentary family photographer

This topic is rarely black and white. As an O’Hare documentary family photographer, I see these raw emotions often. On this day, we arrived three hours early. We waited anxiously for a familiar face in the crowd. We even brought balloons for the occasion. However, my two-year-old released them onto the airport ceiling just before the meet and greet. We sat there and watched strangers reunite. We saw passengers return home and kids run through the halls.

    A Soulful Homecoming

Finally, we saw her rushing through the terminal. She looked exactly as I remembered. Disbelief hit us all for a quick moment. Time showed on her skin, yet her eyes were more beautiful than I remembered. They were just as kind as ever. Deep hugs followed, and the tears flowed freely. Ultimately, my Aunt broke the gravity of the moment. She emerged from the bathroom upset that she missed the first sighting, making us all laugh.

We hope she can visit us much more often now. We also hope to travel to see her soon. I feel so happy to have captured these special images. If you need an O’Hare documentary family photographer to tell your story, I would love to help. I adore that my job as a Chicago Family photographer has allowed me to forever capture my families stories.

Capturing the Magic: Lincoln Park Conservatory Photos

There is something truly cinematic about the light inside a greenhouse. Consequently, spending the weekend taking Lincoln Park Conservatory photos felt like stepping into another world. Even though my kids are growing up and life feels busier with school, these small adventures remain the heartbeat of our family life. I often forget how lucky I am to be able to give them little gems of their childhood for the future. I hope every time they see a photograph they understand that my heart is full to the brim with love for them. Honestly, I adore them so much it hurts.

Why I Love Lincoln Park Documentary Storytelling Photos

As a Chicago family photographer , I believe that time is always slipping away. However, photographs allow us to pause the clock. Whether we are wandering through the Fern Room or admiring the palms, I want to capture my children exactly as they are. In addition to the beautiful greenery, the Lincoln Park Conservatory offers a timeless backdrop for soulful, unposed stories. I personally love adventuring out with my kids. If your kids are anything like mine. They don’t want to sit, or pose or be anything other than themselves. They want to explore, smell and be loud. I love capturing that genuine childhood for them. And I want to do it for my clients. That’s why I marry lifestyle and documentary in my photography work.

    Lincoln Park Conservatory photos

Ultimately, these “short stories” are the ones I will cherish most. These Lincoln Park Conservatory photos aren’t just snapshots; they are a record of our history. If you are looking for a session that feels like an effortless afternoon in the city, I would love to document your journey. Every greenhouse in the city needs a permit but I am always here to help book that and get some cool shots.

Wentworth Family: A Lincoln Square Family Photographer Story

The first time we tried to schedule this session, the Chicago weather had other plans, and we lost our light before we could even begin. Thankfully, our second attempt was gifted with one of those incredibly warm, golden fall days. That makes being a Lincoln Square family photographer the best job in the world.

Initially, we hadn’t planned on shooting indoors. However, I am so incredibly thankful the Wentworths invited me into their beautiful home. Some of my favorite images from this entire session happened right inside their “little home.” When I stepped through the door, Dad was busy getting baby S ready, and she was already beaming with smiles.

The Beauty of At-Home Documentary Photography

From the moment I entered, you could see and feel the love in every corner. As a documentary-style photographer, I am always drawn to the personal details. They tell a family’s history. I especially loved the framed heart artwork on their walls—a piece created at their wedding that now hangs as a backdrop to their new life as a family of three.

Why I Love Being a Lincoln Square Family Photographer

After we soaked up the indoor light, we headed out to explore. Lincoln Square has a distinct, nostalgic charm. I love the local shops near Giddings Plaza and the quiet, tree-lined streets. We eventually made our way to the nearby park so baby S could play in her favorite place.

Documentary photography avoids stiff poses or forced smiles. Instead, I capture the “favorite places” and the small, everyday connections. If you enjoyed this peek into their day, you might like this at-home newborn session in Chicago. It uses the same unposed approach.

I want to tell your story exactly as it is. We can hang out in your living room or wander through the heart of Lincoln Square together.
