La Grange might be one of the most underrated towns in the western suburbs for family photos. Downtown has this warm, walkable energy brick storefronts, wide sidewalks, gorgeous light in the late afternoon. And then five minutes away you’ve got Salt Creek and La Grange Park, which feel completely different. As a La Grange family photographer, I love having that range to work with depending on your family’s vibe.

Downtown La Grange is great for families who want something with character the architecture and streetscapes give your gallery a timeless, editorial feel. For something more open and natural, the Salt Creek trail offers beautiful greenery and easy walking for little ones. Spring and fall are especially stunning here. Sedgwick Park is another low-key gem wide open, easy to navigate with strollers, and beautiful in the golden hour.

La Grange sits in Cook County just southwest of Chicago, bordered by Western Springs, La Grange Park, and Countryside. It’s a Metra-connected suburb with a tight-knit community feel and a walkable downtown anchored by the La Grange Theater and local independent shops. Families here tend to put down roots and they want photos that reflect the life they’re actually living, not a catalog version of it.
