Next, we spent the morning wandering through Henry’s nursery. as a Portage Park newborn photographer, I love chicago light. We followed the soft morning light that filters through the trees in this charming neighborhood. Because these homes have such unique character, Henry’s house was a dream to shoot in. The neutral tones provided a calm, timeless backdrop. Consequently, the focus remained entirely on the connection between Henry and his parents.

Furthermore, the large windows in the living room allowed for some beautiful, airy family portraits. Since we were in the comfort of their own home, everyone felt much more at ease.

`Portage Park Newborn Photography Experience`

Additionally, many parents worry about their house being “perfect” for a photoshoot. However, I always remind them that the best memories aren’t curated. They are lived. During this Portage Park session, we focused on the little things. For example, we captured the way Henry curled his fingers around his mom’s hand. We also photographed the quiet snuggles on the sofa.

Finally, by staying at home, the atmosphere remains relaxed. There’s no need to pack a diaper bag or brave the Chicago weather. Instead, we can take breaks for feedings or changes. This ensures the baby stays comfortable and the gallery feels authentic. Moreover, these images will serve as a permanent reminder of Henry’s very first room. It was truly an honor to photograph this family in the heart of Chicago, IL. It is so special to be a part of this families growth, as a Chicago Family Photographer.

As a Jefferson Park maternity photographer, I recently had the pleasure of documenting Becca and Miles as they prepared to welcome their first daughter. It was a classic, cool summer day in the city. Documentary Pregnancy Portraits with Pets

Their dog, Kip, was such a sweetheart during the shoot. Despite his old age, he was able to explore the fields and be a functional part of this Jefferson Park maternity photographer session. Including him was essential to me. Specifically, I believe that pets are a vital part of the family legacy. This is especially true during major life transitions like a first pregnancy.

Navigating a Pandemic Pregnancy in Chicago

During our time together, we discussed what it meant to be pregnant during this unique pandemic era. Becca shared how her family threw Facebook group showers and used FaceTime to stay connected. Additionally, family members are driving into the city since they are both from outside of Chicago.

It is a completely different experience, yet her positivity was simply the best. In fact, it is powerful to keep such an amazing perspective on life. As a Chicago Maternity Photographer I wish I could accurately capture her glow, I try. She was truly the most radiant I have ever seen. Ultimately, I cannot wait to photograph her beautiful baby girl soon.

Documentary Storytelling in the Waukegan Area

During our session in the Waukegan area, big sister completely filled me in on all the amazing things she learns with her mom at home. She deeply loves nature and bugs. Specifically, she had to point out to me not to destroy the milkweed necessary for Monarch butterflies. I was stomping around in this beautiful field trying to find the perfect light when she gave me that gentle reminder.

Consequently, right after her warning, I fell into a hole! It was hilarious and made for such a great, honest session. As a North Shore family photographer, I live for these unscripted moments that happen when we just let kids be themselves in nature. Furthermore, these memories are the ones that build a true visual legacy for a family.

It seems like just yesterday I was capturing baby B’s arrival, but time is not our friend sometimes; babies grow up right before our eyes. I know Christmas and everything related to this beautiful holiday is so very important to this family. From the small ways in which they gather together to the intentional way they lead their lives, I see all of the beauty represented for them.

Documentary Storytelling at a Wheaton Nursery

Their story actually began in a tiny apartment not far from this local nursery. Consequently, it was fitting that we returned for a tree farm session to document their latest chapter. I also want to give a huge shout-out to the owners of this place; we are so grateful for their inviting ways. They picked a tree then headed for some indoor warmth, a cup of joe, and hot chocolate for the kids. In fact, these “in-between” moments are where the real magic happens.

Capturing Christmas Memories At Wheaton Tree Farm

So many snuggles and memories were captured in between the rows of evergreens. As their Chicago family photographer and friend to say that they are some of my favorite humans would be an understatement. Specifically, I love the way the documentary approach allows for a “visual legacy” that feels honest rather than staged. Instead of asking the kids to sit still, we let them explore the pines and enjoy the crisp air. As a photographer based in Forest Park, I truly love traveling to these West Suburb gems to find new light and textures.
