    Chicago At Home Newborn Photographer | A Documentary Session

    Welcoming a new baby is a whirlwind. You are likely dealing with sleepless nights and tiny miracles. As a Chicago at home newborn photographer, I believe the best way to document this season is in your own space. Specifically, I love capturing families where they feel most comfortable.

    The Beauty of an At-Home Session

    A lifestyle session is very different from a studio visit. First, we move at a relaxed and unhurried pace. We do not worry about perfect poses. Instead, we focus on real connection. For example, I look for the way your baby curls into your chest. Similarly, I love to capture how your family dog sniffs the newest member of the pack. These are the moments you will want to remember forever.

    For this family specifically, it was the second time we worked together. We shot their maternity session earlier this year. I knew their at home newborn session would be effortless and as beautiful as their maternity session.

    Living in Chicago means our homes are our sanctuaries. During this documentary session, we used the natural light in the nursery. We also utilized the comfort of the beautiful nursery the parents built for their newborn baby boy.

    There are many benefits to staying home. For instance, you don’t have to pack a heavy diaper bag. You also don’t have to travel across the city with a one-week-old. Consequently, you can stay in your pajamas and just relax. This allows the session to unfold naturally.

    Documenting the Little Details

    Every detail tells a story. We photographed the Grateful Dead posters on the wall. We also captured those tiny toes in a swaddle. My goal is to give you a gallery that feels like a warm hug. In short, it should be a true reflection of your family’s personality.

    Wicker Park Photoshoot | Coffee Shop Lifestyle Session

    Planning a Wicker Park photoshoot is a great way to capture Chicago’s soul. First, you must find a location that fits your vibe. For example, we chose Colectivo Coffee. This was a great choice because the industrial interior creates a perfect atmosphere.

    Next, we focused on the connection between the friends. Consequently, we kept the session very simple. We ordered lattes and found a cozy corner. Because the patrons were so kind, we felt very comfortable. In fact, it felt like a normal afternoon out. I really tried to categorize the session and I think it’s a Chicago Family photographer session because these girls felt more like sisters.

    Additionally, the outdoor area in Wicker Park is fantastic. After our coffee, we stepped outside. We wanted to capture the famous street art nearby. Truly, this is why a photoshoot is so versatile. You can change your background in just a few steps.

    Furthermore, the lighting in this neighborhood is always beautiful. Therefore, I recommend this spot to all my clients. In short, if you want authentic photos, Wicker Park is the place to be. Specifically, it works well for groups who want a relaxed feeling.

    3 Tips for a Successful Wicker Park Photoshoot

    1. Timing is Everything: To get those airy, bright shots inside a coffee shop without the crowds, try scheduling your Wicker Park photoshoot on a weekday morning. The “golden hour” light hits the street art outside beautifully just before sunset.
    2. Coordinate, Don’t Match: For this Wicker Park photoshoot, the girls wore neutral tones that complemented the warm wood and brick of the cafe. This allows the emotions and laughter to be the star of the image.

    There is a unique magic to a Humboldt Park maternity session, especially when you have a couple as radiant as Christina and Thomas. As a Chicago photographer, I am constantly inspired by the diverse landscapes our city offers. However, this specific park remains a personal favorite because of its blend of lush greenery and historic architecture.

    We began this session near a busy intersection, which might sound unconventional to some. Nevertheless, as any photographer knows, the most important element is the light. Consequently, the way the sun bounced off the surrounding buildings created a sophisticated, urban glow that perfectly complemented the couple’s style. Christina was absolutely glowing. In addition, her joy—along with Thomas’s excitement—was palpable from the very first frame

    Walking through the streets, I was immediately drawn to the local art. Because the famous mural wall belongs to West Town Bakery, we had the perfect colorful backdrop for our morning. Their pastries are just as beautiful as their art, making it a must-stop spot for any family wandering the neighborhood.     Documenting families in their element is what I love most. Whether we are exploring city murals or capturing an at-home newborn lifestyle session, the goal is always the same: to create a visual legacy.     I believe that the beauty of this world is found in the simple moments of our daily lives. For this creative session, we headed to one of my favorite neighborhoods for Bucktown family photography. We started at a local coffee shop—the kind of design-forward spot that makes this area so special. This setting trades the traditional park backdrop for something more honest and relatable. I loved how spunky and full of smiles this duo was. Heather is a fellow local photographer, and I absolutely fell in love with the bond she shares with her kiddo.

    Choosing an urban environment like Ipsento  (especially near the 606 trail) allows for a relaxed, lifestyle experience. Furthermore, it gives children a chance to explore a familiar and fun space. In Bucktown family photography, we focus on the interaction rather than the pose.
