Studio Maternity Photography Chicago | Vintage Nightgown Session

She wore her late mother’s nightgown. That’s the thing I keep coming back to when I think about this studio maternity photography session in Chicago. Not the light — though it was gorgeous. Not even the way her husband looked at her, which was the kind of look that makes me feel lucky to do this work. It was the nightgown. Cream, soft, clearly beloved. She told me about it quietly before we started, and I felt it.

That’s what maternity photography is for me. Not the poses. The stories that show up wearing vintage fabric.

Studio maternity photography — which is not my usual

I spend most of my time shooting outdoors or inside people’s homes. Natural chaos, dogs underfoot, kids running past the frame. So when this client booked a studio session, I was curious. Could I find the documentary feeling I love in a controlled environment?

    Yes. Absolutely yes.

The clean walls and soft light gave her something different — space to just be. No wind. No distractions. Just her, her bump, and eventually her husband, who joined us for a few portraits and made the whole room warmer just by being in it.

What I love about documenting pregnancy

Every studio maternity photography session in Chicago carries something I recognize that particular mix of anticipation and vulnerability that comes with waiting for someone you already love completely. I’ve been there myself, and it shaped the way I show up to this work.

This session had all of that, and then some. The nightgown connected three generations in a single frame. Her husband’s tenderness was the kind you can’t manufacture. The light did exactly what I needed it to do.

I came home and immediately wanted to photograph their baby.

If you’re expecting and looking for a Chicago maternity photographer who will actually pay attention — to the details you bring, the mood you’re in, the story underneath the session — I’d love to hear from you.

Oak Park Maternity Photographer | Golden Hour Session

There is a unique magic in the air during a maternity session. It is a mix of quiet anticipation and overwhelming love. As an Oak Park maternity photographer, I document these fleeting moments for families. This recent golden hour session was truly beautiful.

Why Hire an Oak Park Maternity Photographer?

Choosing a local expert is important for your portraits. For example, I know exactly where the light hits the trees in our local parks. During this session, we waited for the perfect “golden hour.” This is the hour just before sunset. Consequently, the light becomes soft, warm, and hazy. This lighting is very flattering for pregnancy portraits. Furthermore, it avoids the harsh shadows of the midday sun.

We wandered through a lovely park in the heart of the village. We used the tall trees and open paths to create a variety of looks. As a result, the gallery is filled with warmth and timelessness.

    Planning Your Maternity Portraits

If you are currently searching for an Oak Park maternity photographer, here are a few tips to ensure your session feels effortless:

    • The Best Timeline: I typically recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 34 weeks. This is when your bump is beautifully defined, but you are still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience.
    • Wardrobe Choices: For this session, mom chose a stunning, flowy dress that caught the light beautifully. Textures like lace or silk photograph exceptionally well during golden hour.
    • Location is Key: Whether you prefer the historic architecture of downtown Oak Park or the lush greenery of our local parks, choose a location that feels like “you.”

    Let’s Capture Your Story

Welcoming a new baby is a major milestone, and these portraits will be the first chapter of your child’s story. If you’re looking for a maternity or newborn session in the Chicago area, I would love to chat.

As a dedicated Oak Park maternity photographer, my goal is to make you feel confident, beautiful, and relaxed in front of the lens.
