There is something so magical about reaching the first birthday milestone. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing this sweet boy’s one year old photography in Chicago. We decided to keep things relaxed by staying right in the comfort of their own home. Consequently, the energy of the session was incredibly calm and natural.

As a photographer, I love seeing how much a baby’s personality has blossomed by twelve months. This little guy was all smiles and curiosity. In addition, he had the best “assistant” by his side—the family dog! While some might worry about pets during a session, I find they add a beautiful layer of connection. Therefore, I always encourage families to include their furry best friends in the frame.

Many people think of “cake smashes” in a studio for a first birthday. However, I believe that one year old photography in Chicago is often better captured in your own living room. As a Jefferson Park baby photographer, I find that capturing babies is a unique experience. I first worked with Mara’s parents during their maternity session. Initially, they chose to push back their newborn session. I completely respect that decision. This season of life has been overwhelming for everyone. Recently, I finally had the honor to meet sweet baby Mara. She was absolutely gorgeous and full of smiles.

An Outdoor Start for a Jefferson Park Baby Photographer

We started our session at a favorite local park in Chicago. Specifically, we returned to the same location from their maternity photos. However, the mosquitoes were very active that evening. We realized quickly that we needed a new plan. Consequently, we decided to move the session to their nearby home. Furthermore, finding a flexible Jefferson Park baby photographer is important when nature does not cooperate.

Transitioning to a Lifestyle Session at Home

I did not mind the change at all. In fact, their beautiful bungalow was the perfect backdrop for my work. Capturing babies in their own space is always joyous. Because they are in a familiar place, their curiosity truly shines. Mara’s eyes were full of wonder. Additionally, every new experience was met with amazement.

As a chicago family photographer, I love seeing how families document these days. I noticed photographs displayed all over their home. Moreover, I could see Mara’s progression from a tiny infant to a little person. I hope this family remembers these days fondly. As a result of our move indoors, we captured some of my favorite nursing and crib moments.

Documenting Milestones in Chicago

The days are long, but the years are very short. Therefore, I focus on “honesty over poses” in every session. Seeing Mara at nine months old was a treat. She is becoming such a vibrant little person. Finally, stay tuned for more milestones from this sweet girl!

I first met Alex at his birth, where he made a very vocal entrance into the world at a downtown Chicago hospital. Seeing him again at three months, I couldn’t believe how alert and present he had become. His eyes were wide open, taking everything in. He was smiling, cooing, and just radiating that brand new human energy that goes by way too fast.I made it, I finally got to see this beautiful boy again.
