    Milwaukee Family Photography: A Downtown Waterfront Session

    Might as well call me a Milwaukee Family photographer. Milwaukee is such an incredible city. As a Chicago family photographer, people often ask if I am willing to travel for a session. Specifically, my answer is always a resounding yes! I recently had the pleasure of heading north for a Milwaukee Family Photography session at the beautiful downtown waterfront. This is the 3rd year working with this beautiful family. Fortunately, the weather was absolutely perfect, and the golden hour light over the lake was a dream come true for this lifestyle shoot.

    Exploring the Milwaukee Waterfront

    We began our session near the rocks, where the kids could climb and explore. Instead of stiff posing, I encouraged the family to interact naturally with the landscape. For example, the children loved jumping between the stones while their parents watched with pure joy. This area is such a gem for Milwaukee Family Photography because it offers both urban skylines and natural, rugged textures.

    Additionally, we moved to the grassy areas to let the kids run free. The city of Milwaukee provides such a diverse backdrop, from the modern architecture of the Art Museum to the calming blue of Lake Michigan. Consequently, we were able to capture a wide variety of moods and moments in a single hour.

    Why I Love Traveling for Sessions

    Furthermore, traveling to new locations keeps my creative spark alive.     There is a quiet peace during a family session by the lake. First, as an Evanston beach family photographer, I love the light at Lake Michigan. The Kurani family session was a great example of this. In fact, we had a warm, golden day in October. It felt just like summer.

    Next, we walked along the shore and the grass. Because the Evanston beaches have so much variety, we got many different looks. We took photos of the kids running. We also caught quiet moments by the water. The clouds were soft. So, the light was perfect for the family. It made their laughter stand out against the blue water.     Additionally, many families ask why I recommend the beach for their portraits. However, once they see the open sky and feel the sand between their toes, they understand. During this Evanston session, the kids had the freedom to run and be themselves. For example, we didn’t focus on stiff posing. Instead, we captured the doting way the parents looked at their children and the joy of being together outside.

    Finally, these sessions are about more than just a pretty location. They are about documenting the love and care your family has for one another. Moreover, as an Evanston beach family photographer, I strive to make these moments feel effortless. It was truly a joy to be their photographer in the heart of Evanston, IL. Whether you are new to the area or a long-time local, the lake is always a worthy backdrop for your memories.
