Oh what a sweet and special time I had reconnecting with this lovely family. Just last summer I was present during this sweet baby girl’s birth. Now close to a year after and a whole world of a difference later here I am again. I honestly wanted nothing than to engage with that beautiful baby and get to hug this incredible mama who I’m sure has had a hell of a year. None the less, I am so grateful they are healthy and we were able to make this sweet shoot happen. Big brother E is just as busy as ever, and completely in love with his little sister. I am so exited to keep on following on their journey! and continue to document their love.
You know those rad couples that are just completely doing their own thing, well Brooke and Bob are certainly that. I met them last fall and I’m so excited that they picked me to photograph one of the most important days of their lives. For their engagement shoot, we completely froze a little but I think it was so worth it, I’m so grateful for the little bit of sunshine that showed up for us. It was so fun to get to know them a little more and see how they interact and show their love for each other, I’m a sucker for love stories. I can’t wait to see them walking down the aisle.
It seems like just yesterday I was over capturing baby B’s arrival. Time is not our friend sometimes, babies grow up righ before our eyes. I know Christmas and everything related to this beautiful holiday is so very important to this family. From the small ways in which they gather together to the important way they lead their lives. I see all of the beauty represented for them.
Their story began in a a tiny apartment not far from this Wheaton IL tree farm nursery. Also can we give a shout out to the owners of this place, we are so grateful for their inviting ways. It was fitting that we had a session here. They picked a tree then headed for some indoor warmth, a cup of joe, and hot chocolate for the kids. So many snuggles and memories in between. To say that they are some of my most favorite humans would be an understatement. I look forward to seeing this family expand and grow throught the years.
This new decade has already proven that I am going to be completely challenged and pulled in all kinds of crazy directions. So to take a break from that I am going through old images and publishing, erasing, and moving forward. My amazing friend @KerlynVanGelder taught this amazing session for me in Portland and I can’t belive I haven’t shared what I was able to capture through my lens. I hope you enjoy these images. I want to start adding more of raw motherhood images to my work.
With tiny little Valentina the Villagomez family expanded their hearts to become a family of four. She has been the tiniest baby I have photographed. My favorite part about newborns is their super curly qualities and the tiny little fists they can’t help but form. The way they wrap their tiny hands around their loved ones. Did I mentione that her big sister is one! Still just a baby herself and already feeling so proud. This family is incredibly beautiful and Im so happy I had a chance to photograph them in this new chapter in their life.
This year, no scratch that. This decade has been full of amazing surprises. 2019 was such a revelation. It was a huge year for growth and understanding personally, but also a tremendous year for my business. I want to thank all of my incredible clients that took a chance on me this year. I met some of the loveliest humans, but I also had so many families returning with their own crazy changes and growth. Photography can enable us to capture much more than an image. And I am so lucky to be able to do this. Here is a quick blog of my very own little bunch. We thrive on sponteneity and imprefection.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TRUST! HAPPY NEW YEAR HOPE THIS FINDS YOU WELL!
Flabbergasted by her beauty.
Sometimes in this line of work you get meet some truly calm and powerful souls. The way in which she told me her birth plan was amazing, full of hope and steadiness. Nothing could rock her.
For her session we headed to the beach, probably the only available location due to the high temperatures, the typical icy lake turned Luke warm. It was refreshing. To say that she made my job easy would be an understatement. It like she was made for basking in the sun.
To give you an update she had her birth, that same one she told me about, she brought to fruition. Just like I knew she would.
Back in April I had the freaking experience of a lifetime. I watched a beautiful mama catch her sweet baby boy. This birth is actually in two parts, we had two nights. I was called over and sent home the first day, even though no baby came that day. I got to know her incredible birth team. By the way she had never had anyone present for her two prior births. When she stalled out, at 4 cm, she decided to not intervene with her process and allowed that baby to stay put for as long as he needed to. Remember patience is a virtue. The second night we were called over I opted to take the highway since I wasn’t sure how quick it would be, and man am I gald I took the faster route. That sweet boy was extremely quick. I got there and withing 15 minutes, in a blink of an eye he was here. She is a badasss and i am so lucky to have captured this incredible moment.

The journey to strong self-love is hard. It reminds me if that shitty Chicago street, you know which one I’m referring to. The one that you brace yourself for. The one that is riddled in potholes and you have to maneuver like MacGyver to safety.
SELF LOVE, I mean. It seems to be a selling point for a ton of products these days. If you love yourself then buy this or that. One thing that no one says out loud is that you can’t fake self-love. It’s apparent in every action we make, in the way we speak of ourselves. I hope that you can see my self love in these images. While I still hold on to a ton of self-preservation, I am also not afraid to share my thoughts and love for me with the world. Does it make me selfish, maybe?. Nearing 30 you just care less and less about what others might think.
Sometimes you get so lucky!
So living in the middle of suburbian Chicago always leaves me uninspired to be frank. I’m constantly bugging my clients to head out to the beautiful outskirts of this State, most times this isn’t possible. Well when it comes to rad friends that encourage adventure and that want a different type of approach to their maternity images, I have to wonder. How did I get so lucky?
The location is Starved Rock state park. We headed out in a lovely October warm morning. While it was foggy and wet the boys just loved being able to explore and check out their environment. Of course, because of the way I work, that is just pure gold for me. I want them to explore and be their goofy selves. I love this family so much, they picked up a ton of fall treasures and have now welcomed a fourth boy into their family stay tuned for that blog post.
