Documenting Honest Moments in River Forest, Illinois

There is a specific magic to River Forest. The tree-lined streets, the historic homes, the way the light filters through the canopy on a late afternoon walk. As your River Forest family photographer I am not here to pose you because a River Forest family photographer should do more than just take pretty pictures.. I am here to follow your family through the moments that actually make up your life — the slow Sunday mornings, the kids chasing each other through the yard, the quiet in-between moments that happen so fast you almost miss them.

I specialize in a hybrid documentary and lifestyle approach — about 80% pure observation, 20% gentle guidance to find the best light or spark a natural moment. The result is a gallery that feels like art and like your actual family at the same time. Every family is welcome here. I am proudly inclusive and honored to work with families of all kinds — including LGBTQ+ families who deserve to have their love and their story documented with the same honesty and care as anyone else.

Fully bilingual in English & Spanish — porque tu familia merece ser documentada en tu idioma.

Why River Forest is One of My Favorite Places to Shoot

River Forest homes have a soul that translates beautifully to cinematic, film-inspired imagery. The architecture, the natural light, the proximity to the Des Plaines River and the forest preserves — it all creates a backdrop that feels both timeless and deeply personal. I love working in this community because the setting is already so beautiful that I never have to force anything. I just have to pay attention.

Some of my favorite River Forest locations include a documentary stroll through the Trailside Museum of Natural History, the riverbank at sunset, the tree canopy along Thatcher Avenue, and of course — your own home, which always tells the truest story.

At Home or On Location — Your River Forest Session Your Way

One of the things I love most about photographing families in River Forest is the flexibility. Some families want to stay home — and honestly, at-home sessions are some of my absolute favorites. The morning light in a River Forest kitchen, the nursery you spent months putting together, the couch where your whole family piles on together — that is where real life lives and that is where the best images come from.

Other families want to get outside and explore the neighborhood. The Trailside Museum trail, the riverbank, the canopy of Thatcher Avenue in golden hour River Forest on location is just as beautiful as inside. Some families do both in the same session, starting at home and wandering outside when the kids need to move. I follow your lead completely.

Your River Forest Family Photography Experience

Every session starts with connection, not direction. Sometimes that means meeting for a coffee at Black Fodder before heading to your home. Sometimes it means arriving while the kids are still in pajamas and just letting the morning unfold. I work around your family’s rhythm not the other way around.

I will never ask your kids to sit still for an hour. Because I am an attachment and gentle parent myself, I know how to work with children in a way that feels natural and calm. Kids forget I am there within minutes and that is exactly when the best images happen. Whether your children are newborns, toddlers, school age, or teenagers I see the magic in every stage and I will make sure you have it documented before it passes.

Whether you are looking for an at-home newborn session, a milestone family gathering, or a documentary lifestyle session in your favorite River Forest spot I am based right here in Forest Park, just minutes away, and ready to document your story.

What to Wear for Your River Forest Family Session

Styling your family does not have to be stressful. The goal is simple everyone should feel comfortable and like themselves. I always recommend coordinating without fully matching, choosing soft and neutral tones that complement the natural beauty of River Forest, and above all avoiding anything that feels stiff or costume-like.

For detailed inspiration check out my What to Wear Pinterest board — it is full of real examples of outfits that photograph beautifully in natural light. I will also send a full style guide when you book so you are never on your own figuring it out.
