The Fox River running through Elgin is one of the most genuinely beautiful natural backdrops in the suburbs. Most families don’t think to use it for photos. I do. As an Elgin IL family photographer who travels throughout the Chicago metro, I look for locations that feel specific to a place rather than generic. Elgin has that quality in a way a lot of suburbs don’t.
I’m Adri De La Cruz. Documentary family photography is what I do. Which means sessions with me look less like a stiff photoshoot, and more like a really good afternoon with your family. I follow your lead, keep things natural, and catch the moments you’d otherwise miss entirely.

Real Moments, Not Rehearsed Ones
A lot of photographers spend the first twenty minutes of a session moving people around. I spend those twenty minutes watching — getting a feel for how your family moves together. By the time I’m shooting in earnest, everyone’s warmed up and the images start to look like something real.
Elgin IL Family Photographer Location Picks
The Fox River Trail is my top pick in Elgin the combination of water, trees. Therefore the open sky gives you a lot of flexibility in a single location. Lords Park is another strong option, especially for families with kids who need space to play. The historic downtown district also has a lot of texture and visual interest. For a more urban-feeling session, particularly around the Elgin riverfront area.

Local Outlines: Elgin IL family photographer at a Glance
Elgin is one of the largest cities in the Chicago metro area, straddling Kane and Cook counties about 35 miles northwest of the city. It has a genuinely diverse, multicultural community — something I connect with deeply as a bilingual photographer. The downtown revitalization along the Fox River has made it a surprisingly vibrant place, with art installations, local restaurants, and a strong sense of community identity.
Serving Elgin and the Northwest Suburbs
I serve families throughout the northwest suburbs and greater Chicago area. Families, newborns, maternity, Fresh 48, birth, and engagements — I photograph it all. I’m fully bilingual in English and Spanish, which matters to a lot of my Elgin families. LGBTQ+ families are always warmly welcomed.
