Milwaukee Family Photography: A Downtown Waterfront Session

Might as well call me a Milwaukee Family photographer. Milwaukee is such an incredible city. As a Chicago family photographer, people often ask if I am willing to travel for a session. Specifically, my answer is always a resounding yes! I recently had the pleasure of heading north for a Milwaukee Family Photography session at the beautiful downtown waterfront. This is the 3rd year working with this beautiful family. Fortunately, the weather was absolutely perfect, and the golden hour light over the lake was a dream come true for this lifestyle shoot.

Exploring the Milwaukee Waterfront

We began our session near the rocks, where the kids could climb and explore. Instead of stiff posing, I encouraged the family to interact naturally with the landscape. For example, the children loved jumping between the stones while their parents watched with pure joy. This area is such a gem for Milwaukee Family Photography because it offers both urban skylines and natural, rugged textures.

Additionally, we moved to the grassy areas to let the kids run free. The city of Milwaukee provides such a diverse backdrop, from the modern architecture of the Art Museum to the calming blue of Lake Michigan. Consequently, we were able to capture a wide variety of moods and moments in a single hour.

Furthermore, traveling to new locations keeps my creative spark alive. While I love my Chicago neighborhoods, there is something refreshing about the Milwaukee energy. Finding the perfect light is a dream for any Brookfield WI maternity photographer. Specifically, the golden hour at Mitchell Park provided the most incredible, ethereal glow for the Davison family. I have been so eager to share these images! Admittedly, I’ve been busy soaking up life, but this session was too beautiful to keep hidden any longer.

I had the joy of documenting the Davison family earlier this season. In fact, it was such an honor to be invited into their story as they prepare to welcome a new soul. Initially, the kids were a bit shy when we stepped out into the field. However, they quickly warmed up to the camera. Consequently, some of my favorite images are the candid moments of them simply being themselves in the tall grass.

Walking through all of this sand is incredibly difficult. Additionally, shooting with primes means I am constantly running back and forth like a silly goose for just the right angle. Let’s just say I got a killer workout. I am so incredibly happy with these images. Consequently, it feels like I am finally checking a major shoot off my photographer bucket list. The sand dunes provided a gorgeous backdrop and they did not disappoint.

The Magic of a California Couples Photography Session

While Luis and Ale are officially married, I can’t wait to see my little brother walking down the aisle. I’ll also see both my mom and dad in tears because I’m sure he’s the favorite! He is five years younger than me. Furthermore, I remember feeling annoyed when he was born. I didn’t get the point of adding another sibling after five years of solitude.

Growing up, he was always far more responsible than me. He would open doors at four in the morning as I was getting home from a night of partying. In addition, he always got up early for school while I just rolled out of bed. Eventually, he chose to move to California for the love of his life. He made the necessary changes for his own happiness. I am so proud of him for living in his truth.

Family Milestones in the Desert

Ale is such a sweetheart and she doesn’t take any shit. Therefore, she is the perfect match for him. We are tough people to love because we don’t always let others in. However, she has managed to make my brother someone who is open to love. She has made it safe for him to be himself. Consequently, I am so happy to welcome her into my family.

I look forward as a Chicago Wedding photographer and his sister for many future trips to capture their upcoming milestones. Ultimately, I hope to document their years together and eventually their babies. No pressure, but I really want to be an aunt soon! Austin TX Family Photographer | Travel session

Once Upon a Time in Austin | Austin TX Family Photographer

These images were taken in September of last year in the beautiful Austin, Texas! It was a session led by the incredible Stormy Solis. Being in charge of a big event like this means I don’t really shoot a whole lot. But this light and beautiful family couldn’t be ignored, plus it was the last session of the day. As an Austin TX family photographer for the moment, I felt a deep pull to capture the way the Texas sun hit the tall grass.

It is always so much fun to see how other artists interpret the same subjects. Specifically, watching the way different photographers chase the light is a constant source of inspiration. In fact, I hope to go back to Austin someday and get to explore a bit more of that incredible city. Whether I am at home in the Midwest or traveling south, I am always looking for that cinematic edge that defines a visual legacy.

Because this session was unscripted, the family was able to simply be. Instead of directing every movement, I watched the raw connection unfold. Additionally, the warmth of the Austin landscape mirrored the warmth of this family’s energy. Ultimately, these are the stories that deserve to be preserved—the ones that feel honest and unforced. From Online Connection to North Carolina: A Travel Story

I met Lydia online years ago in a private group for mothers, and ultimately, we were meant to be real-life friends. She is one of those rare souls who can kindly tell you exactly how you’re wrong without ever making you feel bad for it. When she invited me to her new home in North Carolina to document her family, I didn’t hesitate. Working as a traveling family photographer in Chicago means I often get the chance to follow stories wherever they lead.

Specifically, capturing this slice of their love in a brand-new setting was such an honor. Their family is authentically beautiful, and that baby! Basically, she gave me the most intense baby fever I’ve had in years. I loved getting to see their dynamic in person after years of digital friendship.

The Heart of a Traveling Family Photographer from Chicago

Because I prioritize unscripted, documentary moments, I find that traveling to a client’s home—regardless of the zip code—creates the most honest results. Whether I am documenting a morning in Oak Park or a weekend in North Carolina, my goal is the same: to preserve your visual legacy. Ultimately, this trip reminded me why I love my job. I left North Carolina feeling inspired and full of gratitude for the way photography turns “internet friends” into lifelong “IRL friends.” We definitely need to plan a girls’ trip soon!

Traveling Family Photographer Chicago | Teaching & Mentoring

I taught for the first time! I photographed a real family in their actual home in front of over 20 other photographers. To say I felt nervous is an understatement. As a traveling family photographer from Chicago, I usually work in intimate settings. However, having a crowd of peers watching my every move added a new level of pressure. I even gave the mama, Cate, the wrong date!

Specifically, this mistake could have caused a catastrophe. Cate had cleaners over to prepare for the next day. Despite my error, she handled the situation with incredible grace. Ultimately, mistakes happen in life. I pride myself on rolling with the punches. As fate would have it, my snafu worked out perfectly. Cate’s grandfather fell ill that weekend. By shooting early, she gained the freedom to be with her family during a tough time. I feel beyond grateful for the time they gave us.

The Heart of a Traveling Family Photographer from Chicago

During this session, I kept calling my work “hybrid”—a mix of documentary and lifestyle. However, I have since officially added the title of Rhythmic Storytelling to my work. Because I need my images to make sense to me, I look for the natural cadence of a family’s love. Whether I am teaching a workshop or working as a traveling family photographer from Chicago, that rhythm is what I’m sticking to.

Consequently, even when the light is “all over the place” and the ISO is set to 5000, the soul of the session remains intact. It was chaos, and I probably forgot a million things I wanted to say as a teacher, but it was an enlightening experience. They were beautiful, and their love could be felt in every corner of their home. Such a beautiful example about what it means to be a Chicago Family photographer who travels.
