Your family is not a portrait waiting to happen. It is a living, breathing, gloriously chaotic story and it is already beautiful exactly as it is. The way your toddler refuses to look at the camera, and The way your teenager still reaches for your hand when they think nobody is looking. The way your baby dissolves into giggles at absolutely nothing. As your Chicago family photographer, I am not here to line you up and tell you to smile. I am here to follow you, watch you, and catch the moments that make your family yours.
Fully bilingual in English & Spanish — porque tu familia merece ser documentada en tu idioma.
Chicago Family Photography That Feels Like Your Life
No stiff poses or matching outfits on a white backdrop. No “everyone look here and say cheese.” Just your family, your favorite neighborhood, your backyard, your living room — and me, quietly documenting what is already there. The chaos, the tenderness, the in-between moments that happen so fast you almost miss them. Almost.
A Chicago Family Photographer Who Actually Gets Kids
I am an attachment and gentle parent and that shapes everything about how I work with children. I do not rush kids, force smiles, or ask them to perform. Instead I follow their lead, get on their level, and let them show me who they are. Kids who are nervous around cameras forget I am there within minutes. Kids who are wild and energetic? Even better that energy makes for the most honest, joyful images.
As a mom of two including teenagers, I also know something that parents of young kids are just starting to understand these moments are gone before you know it. The sticky hands, the tantrums, the way they still want to be carried even when they are almost too big. I see the magic in all of it, and I will make sure you have it forever.
Where We Can Shoot In The Best City In The World
I photograph family sessions all across Chicago and the western suburbs. Some favorite locations:
- Your neighborhood — the streets, the coffee shop, the park so you go to every weekend
- The lakefront — golden light, open sky, timeless Chicago backdrop
- Lincoln Park, Humboldt Park, Millennium Park — lush and beautiful in every season
- At home — your actual life, your actual space, your actual storyOak Park, Evanston, Naperville, Downers Grove, Hinsdale — I know and love the western suburbs
- Indiana Dunes — a little further but so worth it for that golden lakefront light
I See the Magic of Childhood — Even the Messy Parts
Childhood is not a highlight reel. It is messy and loud and tender and hilarious and heartbreaking all at once. The meltdown before the session even starts. The sibling who will not stop bothering the other one. The toddler who only wants to chase pigeons. That is not a problem that is your story. And as a documentary family photographer in Chicago, that is exactly what I am there to capture.
Because in twenty years you will not remember the perfect posed photo. You will remember the chaos. The laughter. The way your kids were so completely, perfectly themselves.
When to Book Your Chicago Family Session
I photograph families year round every season in Chicago has its own magic. Spring blossoms, summer lakefront light, fall color, even a snowy winter session. I recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance for most sessions, and further ahead for popular fall dates which fill up fast.
Additionally if you have a new baby joining the family, ask about bundling a newborn session with your family session it is a beautiful way to document this transition for your whole family.
Chicago Family Photography — Common Questions
How long is a family session?
Typically 60–90 minutes. Long enough to settle in, let the kids warm up, and move through a few different moments and locations. There is no rushing.
What should we wear?
Whatever feels like your family right now. Coordinated but not matching, comfortable but not sloppy I will send a full style guide when you book. The most important thing is that everyone feels like themselves.
What if my kids won’t cooperate?
They never do at first — and that is completely fine. I am a gentle, patient presence and I have never met a kid I couldn’t eventually win over. Some of my favorite galleries have come from the most chaotic sessions.
Do you do at home sessions?
Absolutely at home sessions are some of my favorites. Your home tells your story in a way no park or location ever could. Do not worry about cleaning up — a lived in home is a real home.
Do you photograph extended family or multigenerational sessions?
Yes! Grandparents, cousins, the whole crew I love a big family session. Just let me know when you reach out.
Do you speak Spanish? Yes fully bilingual, happy to work entirely in Spanish from inquiry to gallery delivery.
Can I book a family session and newborn session together? Absolutely ask about bundle pricing when you reach out.
